Yer, about time to give this an update. I drove the truck around for about a month but with no muffler the noise was just too much bark and sounded like it had no exhaust although the spool up time was excellent. I had no choice as I have to be up real early for work and I don’t think my neighbours appreciate my immensely loud diesel truck starting at 5am in the morning. To solve this I had to chuck a high flow muffler on the end, its still fairly loud but at least the note sound is purposeful, not just an annoying bark. Cant complain about the extra power the car is so much more drivable now, hills previously that I had to use second gear on now can be driven in fourth. Sweet.

I will give a quick little run down of the mods I have done of late, nothing to crazy just a number of small things that help me get closer to what I want which more or less my perfect all-rounder.
As its summer time in Aus I have spent (trying too) most of my time enjoying the truck. We have been doing a lot of day trips and weekenders mostly up at the beach.
First off I came up with a little cage for the K9s, something cheap but pretty strong but also easy to take on and off. I found this cheap cage on E-bay and took a punt as it was square tube construction and with some reinforcement in some key areas is very rigid and strong, so mounted it in three spots and got a cover for it. The dogs love it and it has also come in so handy for shopping and carting random stuff.
The front end was leaking so I chucked a maxtrax front end rebuild kit in the front end including wheel bearings and all seals, while I was there I put some new slotted rotors and brake pads. I also noticed the front shocks were stuffed so splurged on some adjustable Rancho XL9000’s, the first truck I owned had ranchos fitted so I have always just stuck with them they have never let me down.
The same place sold the extended braided brake lines so they went on as well. She stops on a dime now so very happy and the front end can finally droop to its full length.

I’ve tidied up all the wiring that wasn’t doing anything (20 years of people adding stuff and then leaving the wiring behind on removal) I guess the bonus is I have enough good wire to make a harness for the radio. I also installed a 200 amp solenoid to connect a rear battery, later on I plan to permanently mount a house bat under the tray, and the 200 amp sol is pricey but is needed to connect the house bat for jump starting.
I ran an Anderson plug out the back to connect my battery box to, I also threw a couple of lights up the top to light up the campsite.
I mounted my little radio in the glove box, I’m a fan of stealthing my accessories as I have had a radio out of the 4runner go walkabout one night, so anything to avoid that again is a good thing. A 40chn 5w for $150, gotta love Aldi. I put an auxiliary speaker in the original speaker hole.
Some random photos of the holidays.
