1994 turbo 4runner

Hey my names Len Martin new to the yota tech forum,

As all of you know a stock 4runner with a 22re 5spd manual isnt the peppiest of vehicles. My solution was a turbo charger I set a budget of 500.00 and used a very basic set of sockets, a welder, angle grinder, hammer and a few other ordinary had tools.

The turbo is off of a stock Subaru wrx/forester full custom everything.

Below is a link to my slideshow of the build I don't have time to do a full write-up on it. any questions please feel free to reply to this thread ill answer anything I can.

as I go through my pictures ill keep adding them as I go as the 4runner is still in the work in progress stages as I need a oil pan for a new oil drain to move further as mine is rotting out

hope you all enjoy

Can you tell of your experience with driving it pre and post turbo? I'm doing a turbo setup now and just curious about driveability.

The pics link didn't work on my phone so I'll try my computer later. Sounds really interesting tho!

Thanks boys, pre boost its slow with boost its much better 4-5psi im having a drain problem for the oil I just picked up a new oil pan havent had a chance to put it in yet after I get it installed I can tune it further and give you an update. Need to run a larger oil drain as the turbo is building oil pressure when its not suppose to

Replacing the oil pan on a IFS truck? You either have to pull the engine or drop the front diff.

Didnt have to fully remove the front diff just the 3 mounds and lower it down with a jack than un bolt the oul sump and wiggle the pan out it was a pain as I live in canada and rust and siezed bolts are not fun to work with but its all done now what a relief

what are you tuning on? did you go map clamp or full stand alone? i'm personally a megsquirt fan.

Future plans, do they include meth or a water/air intercooler? Are you monitoring intake temp v Ambient? how much timing are you running?

sorry, taking a step back i'm new to the forum BUT love turbo anything that's where all my history is.

Last few questions:

Does your Wastegate recirculate or is it an atmospheric dump?
Whats the redline of the 22re? and do you think the bottom end could handle a few more PSI

Josh

I am using a vortech super fmu to increase fuel pressure in boost that is all. Everything else is factory from 1994 people said it cannot be done and the truck will blow up before it holds any boost well almost a week holding 5psi with nothing more than a bit of extra fuel pressure and the difference is night and day
