Picked up a doug thorley header, now i can run my 02 sensor lol, and really finish the exhaust. it has a stock manifold straight piped to a flowmaster 40 right now. sounds ok, drones in the cab though. cant wait to install my new carpet soon. the exhaust ends right before the rear axle right now and its driving me nuts.
can anyone look at my shackle angle and tell me if it isnt correct? i have a friend whos saying it should be more up and down when its flexed out, not at the angle it is shown in the picture above. i am not sure. this was me and a buddies first sas , and we were told to mount the rear shackle tubes as far forward as possible in the body mount bracket. so thats what we did.
going to pick up some new tires soon too. and hopefully i can adjust some of the slop out of the steering box. i did find a article out of a FSM on how to adjust it and will be following that.
found some headlight buckets and hardware so now i have headlights woohoo. picked up a 42" light bar that i will be mounting on right above the windshield
i decided to pull the trigger on a v8 swap. picked up a 1UZ-FE from a ls400 and am slowly gathering parts to get the swap done. also picked up an e locker differential and ordered some 4.88 gears for it and going to re gear the front diff after i destroyed the ring gear lol pics to follow! also i promise to take lots of pictures of the swap and provide as much info as possible for people who want to do the same swap!
So got the timing bet, water pump, valve cover gaskets and some other maintenance stuff done on the 1UZ. painted the valve covers cus why not haha
I decided to go automatic and am running an a340f transmission from a 99 4runner, swapped the input shaft, oil pump and bell housing from an a340e lexus ls400 transmission. then ordered and adapter plate from trail gear to adapt my gear driven tcase to the back of the a340f. i have tons of pics but for some reason my computer isnt taking them in right now so when i figure that out i will post some pics!
waiting on funds right now to get my motor mounts ordered from northwest toys. theyre pricy. but here is the engine sitting in the engine bay. figuring out cooling is going to be interesting there is not a lot of room in here. haha
Got my ifs rear axle and notched it for the elocker. Still need to drill, tap, and install some studs.
not much progress but I finally got in the garage and did something this evening. Lol
was going to go with northwest toys mounts but they have been closed because of the fires in oregon, so i decided to just make my own mounts. 1/4 steel might be a little over kill but well see how they turn out!! hoping to have the engine mounted this week. still a long list of to do's but ive been lacking motivation especially now that its cold up here in northern nevada haha
with the transmission mounted and the engine bolted to it, this is where it sits. i could move it back another 1 1/2" but im lazy and really would love it if i can keep the factory transfer case crossmember. i dont think its going to matter much, im going to have to cut the core support regardless to mount a radiator so. im thinking of leaving it where it is. plus the engine mounts i made line up perfectly with the frame mounts as it sits
ill post a pic of that
got the tundra exhaust manifolds on and they clear the steering shaft! sucks i cant run my nice headers but oh well.
my motor mounts dont work the way i made them so i have to change them up a bit
She finally runs! Been a long slow road! still have quite a bit to do before i can drive it but im excited!
working on getting the cooling system plumbed and my electric fan wired in as well as cleaning up some wiring and getting the rear diff and driveline installed. still waiting on my front diff to get regeared and then i can finally get all the front axle stuff buttoned up.
She’s still not 4wd.. but I’ve been able to take it out and have some fun with it. I absolutely love the 1uz!!
I ended up rewiring a bunch of the engine harness, and actually ended up wiring in a 2000 4runner trans harness into the 1uz harness and it shifts like a champ now. Before I would have to manually shift it.
I am now gathering up parts to get this thing sitting on coilovers. I have a set of fox 2.0x12 coilovers, and am ordering 3 link stuff!
still need to swap the oil pan for a rear sump, and get a better radiator. I can’t wait to get it out with the 3 link!
Some updates. After getting the engine nuclear hot after busting a radiator hose, I decided to just upgrade to a newer style 1uz. This one is out of a 1998 gs400. The ecm is currently out getting the immobilizer deleted, but I have been going through the harness and lightening it up deleting all the emissions stuff etc. the engine got new timing belt components and some new gaskets. Should be ready to drop in this weekend! Then I’ll just be waiting for the ecu to be shipped back and we’ll see how she does!
