You'll need to get that broken bolt outta there, 86. My buddy, I watched him, made a lil grooved cross in the top of his and then an impact driver, and it actually came out! lol. You should probably stick with a broken stud removal kit or something, ORRRRRR, ..... LEAVE IT? LOL. Sounds like a matter of either really dirty or lack of grease or something of the sort... OR, a spring/spacer kinked up in there? Might be time to rebuild the hubs, man.

PS> Think maybe the bearings, inside and out, could use a checking/good cleaning/regreasing?

Believe it or not, the Haynes has all these torque values. Only difference from what I can recall is that the Head Bolts should go to 63-65# rather than the called for 58# in the Haynes and original FSM instructions.

For 'recall' on the Timing cover bolt lengths, timing kit replacement, etc., go here.... http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...ingChain.shtml ...

The main bearings and rod bearings are listed in the Haynes(as well as the FSM.... if you don't have one, you can get it in my sig, below).... I believe the Main torque value is 75# and rod value is 48#... something like that... but be sure! lol.

I've used a few write up on 4x4 Source Mag's, etc., online, .... like this one....

http://www.toyotaoffroad.com/Article...RE-Rebuild.htm

This one.....

http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/t...ent-18545.html

This one.....

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/camshaft/

And there are many more... But to be honest, the FSM was key, printing out the pages I needed, and the Haynes DID HELP, tremendously while hands on under the rig/hood!

Do you have a library near you? I've used them over the years, many times.... for even MANUALS! Yep, they often have many manuals. All you need to do is call and they'll reference you what they have, .....then you can borrow it for free, ya know? You can also find them on Amazon, used, for like 6$ shipped, at times. (they're about 18-22$ new, depending on the store...the "HAYNES", I mean).

Did some digging in my dads shop manuals and found one for a 75-83 toyota pickup, luckily my motor is an 81 so I got all torque specs.

Now for an update got my 22r completely tore down tonight, found a blown apart piston and a lot of broken rings, cylinder walls got some scoring on them but I think I can hone them out. Does anyone know of a good way to clean carbon off the cylinder head?

Hopefully have the motor done and in the pickup by Sunday night

Since you have the head off, I'd just ask a shop "could ya do a budget DIY"er a favor and hot tank this sucker a few times?" ... Just be sure to blow EVERY bit of debris out of there as best as you can(in the water jackets in the block, too)...And BELIEVE ME, ...even if he says, "Sure, 10$"... IT'S WORTH IT, .... it will take SO MUCH SCRUBBING out of it! lol..... If you can't find a nice machinist/builder, .... you can try just using abrasive nylon pads and warm soapy water and then acetone... Then soak em out. I've seen a buddy of mine throw his 350 Heads on the bbq with some Oven cleaner where needed and then hosed em out..... NOT sure that's recommended!(those heads were cast and btw, he had them emptied of all goodies... so didnt' worry about the seals, etc.) hahaha.

If you need help locating stuff, picking which parts to use, throw it up here and I'm sure you'll get help, especially being PNW, dude! lol.

My yard has cranks and short blocks all the time... I got mine and it only needed 10-10 redo... The block was fine as well, 150$ for all of it, complete usable short block.

What's the plan, man?
