Help!!!! I need the trim for the truck I just bought.... Any ideas on a better option then the crap factory stuff

 

I think the windshield trim just hastens rusting because it catches and retains water.

The after-market rubber ones look better, but still does same thing with rust.

Therefore, I'm considering removing those on my 86 Runner, fixing rust spots, leaving the trim OFF, then merely running a good bead of silicone sealant around the seam.

After all, some newer cars do not have trim anymore, yet they look good and clean. ONly pic I can find is that of MK5 Jetta here:


Just concerned about how much gap that would leave. Do you have a picture of yours with missing trim?

 

I'll post a few pics this evening when I get to the garage.... Mine isn't rusting at all... It's a southern truck... Just want a good fix... Cause I haven't seen any yet

 

So! I just installed a center console out of a 97 runner in my 86! Rewired the rear window button out of the 97 to work with the 86 wiring. All looks factory! Anyone else done this?
