Yotakeith, keep going. I also have a 84. Found it online. Am fixing it here n there, now n then. It came with 210,000 miles and believe it or not it was kept as stock as can be. Still has the original white steel rims.

 

man i am. jus with work and school i havent been able to update lately. but yeh mines at 206,xxx and its still runnin. some would probably look down on it but i put then motor back together with that many miles. and other than the occasional valve stem haze, no smoke and runs good and has good power compared to others ive drove. their fun little trucks.

 

finished some little odd and ends. got it licesned this weekend and b een tryin it out. and hit a little mud today but i gotta hub not lockin in. didnt get stuck though. so got some work this week fixin the hub

 

Shouldnt be to bad of a fix. Glad to see you are getting to drive it. Great job to what it was to what it is now.

 

thanks man. its no where near done. i still got alot of things im wantin to do. but yeh it made it a pain in the ass when i got it apart and.. well... it flew apart from spring pressure lol and yeh its aggravating me lol i thought i got em back together right but obviously not

 

Yotakeith, I know this truck is a keeper because 1 guy while on the freeway was yelling out his window asking if I wanted to sell the truck. I nodded to him, "nope".
There also have been notes on my windshield twice from people who wanted to buy the truck.
Once on the road a mailman stuck his head out yelling if I'd sell him the truck.
My answer was again, "no"!
Last month while parking by a cafe someone parked right next to me, he jumped out of his car and tells me, "Ill give you $5,000.00 right now for that truck". Again my answer was nope. But i did give him the "eye" as if saying to him, "more" and will talk about it.
So yes it is worth keeping it and slowly n surley restoring it back as new as best as possible.

 

Yotakeith, just got done changing the plugs. "nkg's". New distributor cap and wiring. Air filter. New belts, and re-adjusted the carb.
Runs like a champ and it's getting better fuel economy.

 

if i can keep the trash outta my carb id probably get better mpgs lol

 

Is rust your biggest issue? If that is the case, there are some coatings you can do to your tank to solve that.

 

rust was a BIG issue. as for alot of yotas ive seen around here that havent had good care. ive taken care of all of mine. but i am gettin some rust in the carb. but i put a small inline filter between the fuel pump and carb so im hopin thatll help

 

welp. rough last couple of weeks with the truck. it left me stranded last friday. its been acting like its vapor locking or runnin out of gas. ive done everything i know of. ive had the carb apart 4 times. messed with the timing. dropped the tank but it was pretty clean. and after searching around a guy posted about the same exact issues and it turned out to be his coil. so im hopefully going to get a coil here in a little bit and hopefully thatll work!

Sorry to hear about the break down. Hoping a coil will get it going for you. I thought I had subscribed, but was just checking in on you and noticed your recent post. Trying to subscribe again.

 

Have you checked lately the air cleaner? Are the plugs the correct type? Have you ever opened up the distributer cap and check out the wear n tear inside? The carbs small intake/ hoses clean.

thanks man. yeh i tried a coil a fuel pump. (even though i put on on it in october) turns out....a little embarrased to admit. i had the inlet and return switched below the fuel pump. somehow it ran fine for 2 weeks on the return? very strange.

Paint your truck. All that primer is doing is SOAKING up moisture rusting your metal from the inside out this time.

Slider pipe looks too small. Use something larger OD.
