So I'm almost 16 and my grandpa recently gave me his old 85 22re, automatic, solid axle extended cab pickup. Unfortunately, I have very little experience with building trucks but would like to be able to rival my fathers xj, so i guess my question is what do u need it to make it a wheeling machine.
I was planning on boring it 30 over rebuilding the engine, lifting it 4 inches, re-gearing to 5.29s with a lunchbox in the rear, putting it on 32s and of course adding body armour to keep it from all of the dings and bumps on the trail. I'm open ears for any advice, brands or companies that you guys have used and also more info on what to do under the hood. Thank you all in advance.

Sounds like your grampa gave you a nice truck to start with!

You don't need 4" of lift and 5.29 gears to run 32" tires tho...You could fit 32" with no lift, and I've ran 33's with 4.10's, it's a little underpowered but alot of people do it, lol.

I agree with Gravy2 on Low Range Offroad, or Addicted Offroad for parts, they both are Trail Gear dealers but cheaper prices! Look forward to seeing some pics of your truck, good luck!
