Bought this pickup a few months ago and wasnt sure if i wanted to build it or just daily drive it. temptation gave in lol.

i bought this truck like it sits in this picture.


So far i have taken out the blue interior and put in a grey dash, tinted windows and added and ifs rear end and spacers in the front.

parts ive gathered for the build

-high pinion 5.29 third member with detroit locker
-5.29 4cyl third member detroit locker
-4" skyjacker springs
-trailer gear front spring hanger with greaseable shackles
-toyota v6 calipers with vented rotors and fj master cyl.
-trail gear high crossover steering with dampener and ifs steering box kit.
-4 billstein 12" 5125 shocks
-trail gear shock hoops
-bfg km2's 315/75/16
-Grant steering wheel with tilt column.

I'll post pictures as i put it all together. This isnt my first build but any advise is appreciated.

Put on my v6 calipers, 1" bore master cyl and vented rotors yesterday. What a big difference!

 

What all do you need to do the v6 brake swap and does it covert the rear to disc also

 

Heck, if my 84 looked like this, I'd be done with my build! Good-lookin' truck, that's for sure.

 

In the front I'm running fj80 drilled and slotted rotors with 93 v6 calipers. In the rear im running a v6 ifs rear end with drums. The drums in the rear are bigger than the 4cyl but I'm not sure how much. You have to run the bigger master cylinder to move all the fluid to the bigger breaks.

 

 

Ran into an issue.. my springs are 44 1/2" eye to eye. when the truck is sitting down the shackle angle is verticle.

 

Take a picture of the angle, it will give us an idea of how far off it is. It is supposed to have a little bit of an angle, but I cant remember the degrees I like to set mine off hand. I have it at the house to look at and I'll let you know.

I know the shackle is supposed to lean back almost to a 45 degree angle. I'm thinking my springs are for stock hangers. The trail gear springs are 47" eye to eye. I'm going to give them a call and see what they say.

 

Got some new springs coming from low range. Here are some current pictures.
not really happy with the wheels and tires. probably going to find something wider and not quite as tall.

 

I'll take a stab at it:

Basically, the ring gear has a drive side (stronger side) and a coast side (weaker side) on each tooth. A standard low pinion rear diff rides on the drive side, but the same diff, when installed in front, is run in reverse and utilizes the coast side.

A high pinion, which has reverse cut gears, will ride on the drive side when used in the front, and is therefore stronger than a standard low pinion front diff, but will ride on the coast side in the rear position and is then weaker than a standard rear diff.

I cant figure out what im doing wrong here. can somebody please help me? i followed tg's instructions and my shackle angle is all messed up.

 

Good looking truck. How do you like those new leaves? I thought about doing the chevy swap in my rear but didnt know, any opinions?

 

I had a similar issue when doing my SAS. I ended up moving the spring hanger back about an inch and everything was good.

I know a ton of people run the rear shocks like you have them, hell I even did for a week but the ride was horrible. I went back to the factory position and it is way better.
