klinc207's 1985 Pickup Build-Up Thread - Project "Utah"
Hey Guys,
Name is Kyle from up in maine. I have an offer out in Utah that I cant refuse, and the thought of living in a new place for a while is to intriguing to say no. So, I sold off anything that is keeping me here (07 ram, some parts cars etc) so I can buy a cheap truck to get me to Salt lake, where I will make trips to moab and snowboard my ass off.
I found an 85 Toyota x-tra cab, new motor, crane cams, header, all pro lift, etc. for $2500 last week. The kid that owned it before me decided to spray paint everything with gray/white primer. All the window seals, trim etc. I have spent the last couple days taking care of the cab. Here are some shots so far-
For the trip, truck will need some brake work- and she should be ready to go. I'll keep this updated untill my departure date sometime in January.

Also, allpro leaves (so he said where on it) Do not seem to be very flexy. Whats a good alternative? I like a truck that will stuff a tire

Hey Guys,
I'll try to get some pics once I get the truck back from my buddys shop. We've spent the last couple days working on the brakes. I grabbed an 1" bore master cyl to keep up with the lager brakes/axles in the rear (from an 87), and ditched the load prop valve for an adjustable one. Also hurculined the inside floor, new radio etc.
To do list is now down to a new windshield and finally driving it around a little to make sure it will make it the 2600 miles trip.
I am hoping to leave within the next 3 weeks-
Also, would it be ok to make this a "help if i breakdown" thread as well, for anybody that would be kind enough to throw me there phone numbers in case i dont make it all the way?
Thanks guys

I am interested in seeing how the truck handles the road trip, I plan on driving my 86 to northern California this summer a few times and wasnt what to expect. Pm me and ill give you my phone number, I live an hour and a half north of salt lake and would be willing to help if needed.

Maybe put in there your starting and ending locations, planned stops, friends/relatives in the area and numbers you can be reached at if you so wish.
I'd rather keep this thread dedicated to your build-up - if you want to scrap this thread as your build-up then I can move it to the trip planning section and you'll be set.
Let me know - doesn't matter one way or another to me.

Thanks for the info! I had old man emu springs on my Nissan, where super flexy-
I think I'm going to stick with these until I get new shocks, the guy that had it before me cut some corners here and there. The shocks seem to have very little down travel. What size are the Bilstein shocks you have with the Alcan 5" springs? The allpros that I have now are 4" lift with MC shackels for a total of 6"-

Most of the truck is good, New England offroad built the motor and helped the guy with some rear frame work. Overall it's in decient shape. I have big plans for when I get to Utah if all goes as planned
Anybody know where there is a reg cab frame for sale in Utah?

Just a quick up date guys-
I got the brakes all taken car of, with a new 1" bore MC and Jegs manual prop. valve for the rears. Exhaust now at least has a flex joint in it (was previously solid, did not want to crack the header!) Wiring has been a mess, but have taken care of most of it, I need a new drivers kick fuse box and I should be good to go. No pics yet-
I'll be leaving this wed. Wish me luck!
