GEOz2k7's 84 4runner build

ok ladies and gents. i just purchased my 84 4runner sr5 about 4 weeks back. 1800 bucks and first yota every single thing worked on it. the motor is a newer motor from what i was told and was well maintained. i did my water pump, and my valve cover gasket was leaking. the 4runner sat for 8 years. i pulled it in for smog, i live in CA. it passed. my problem i am having is the smallest missfire that is a constant but while i drive is fine. i turned the idle up to 1100 and it idles a lot better and much less of a miss. i did a full tune up. checked my vacuum lines no leaks what i can tell. intake manifold gasket is not leaking. valves i checked and were fine. i cannot figure it our to save my life. I am purchasing my weber carb tomorrow, any insight to this or anyone who has had this problem please help me out with ideas. head gasket is not blown, but could it be on its way? Specs on the 4runner. 195k miles, 3 inch lift front n rear, 31s. soon to have first engine mod of the weber. i also got my solid motor mounts on the way. Ill be posting pics asap! let the building begin!

Elaborate on "miss"? 22Rs are noisy as a cat in a metal box anyway.

the noise is a slight miss. ok let me update this. my timing was advanced rly bad. it was pinging horribly and i didnt notice it until today.... but after seting my timing back to around normal the pinging stops. but now my missfire is a lil worse. i didnt clean my egr yet. but i replaced a couple vacuum lines hopin it would fix it. it didnt. i am now comin down to either egr is rly dirty and needs cleaning. or my headgaskets on its way out. the wierd thing is that i have tons of power, more now then ever after pinging stopped. it runs better then any other yota i have owned, which is quite a few 22r yotas. and now i am sitting here in disbelief i cant pinpoint the slightest miss. its not a constant pop, pop, pop. its a pop pop. normal pop pop. normal. any ideas...? i am fresh out and i have had plenty of misses on a 22r and fixed them relatively easy.... its such a nice ass yota i dont know why i cant pinpoint it!

Is it a misfire, or is it just a noise?

If it's just a noise, my guess is tchain guides.
I had that problem.
Just pull the valve cover, and scope it out.

hello folks, back for a little update. the missfire was my carb mounting gasket on stock carb is leaking. today i went over my truck and was lookin for any noises i couldve been hearing and tightened things up a bit. tightened my steering arm, greased my knuckels, greased driveshaft. and low n behold shock bushings! i couldnt find my noise until i looked at the shocks. i feel super good about my 4runner i am ordering my weber tomorrow. got solid motor mounts on the way, and i just ordered my transmission mount and shift knob. what other little things will help with the factory feel back in? steerings been a bit weak since i got her but feels better every time i touch it lol

actually i didnt think of even putting a aftermarket regulator on. i am new to carberators well at least with modding them. i aint the greatest on that note, but anything with pullin motors and trannys i got it down lol. anything basically besides fuel and electrical i can do. but any other thoughts on cheaper upgrades? that u found were nice***

O and the best news yet. i thought my rear main was really bad. well i decided id clean off the grease and old dirt build up off her with some engine degreaser. wiped her down got the connecting of trans and block cleaned nicely, valve cover gasket took all my worries away! i think this 4runner does actually like me now haha. i normally get hated when i mess with them, she likes it!

just lookn for better gas mileage with a lil bit of power upgrades. i dont have many verticals around my are, just pismo sand dunes. but other then that just a lil bit more of lift ill probly do shackles front n rear. might get some better shocks to smooth it out. i as gonna do chevys but not sure yet. do rears up front just bolt right in?

u could have a small air leak. listen for air being pulled in the motor besides the air going in the air filter. or maybe a exhaust leak. check ur spark plugs and see how ur motor is running.
