Engine Replacement 85 4runner

I have read several ideas about replacement engines for my 85 4runner. But I am also hearing that the 85 4runner with EFI is a sought after vehicle because it was the only year the vehicle had EFI & a solid axle. Just wondering peoples opinions on putting another 22RE back in or I was thinking of going with the 1UZ-FE, from a Lexus LS400.

I guess it depends what you want it for.

The 1UZ has double the HP of the 22RE, but what do you need it for??

The first gen 'Runner is really too lightweight to tow much weight.

I guess a 4Runner with Toyota V-8 power would be quite a conversation piece.

I'm happy with the 22RE in my first gen. Slow and steady wins the race.

Sought after is a relative term. It's a very niche market and while they are unique, I highly doubt anyone is going to discriminate based on whether the truck has the original engine or not.

I've got an 85 4Runner and I will put a modern engine in mine when my 22RE finally quits. I've been thinking 3RZ but if you want a V-8, go for it.
