84 yota dude's pickup fix

Hi everyone,
I joined yotatech a month ago and love it. I am obsessed with all of the build threads and have read so many!
Back to the truck, I am 16 years old and in March got a 1984 toyota pickup 4x4 extra cab. The truck has a 4 inch lift with 33 inch tires. Overall it runs good and doesn't need any major fixes. The purpose of this thread is to go through the truck and try to get it looking a little nicer and fixing some small things. Another reason that I want to start a thread is because I have so many questions.

Here are some pics.

BTW I forgot to mention that the truck has 98K miles!

Where is the best place to buy a high steer unit. On my truck there is a tie bar that goes across the front axel and it is slightly bent inwards.

You can pickup a hy steer kit from trail gear, wabfab, marlin, etc... Theres alot of good sites that have the kit. I think that its just a matter of who has the best price and shipping.

Welcome to Yotatech. That is a great looking truck and with such low miles, that is a rare find. 98k may seem alot to you, but it is low mileage considering. This site has all kinds of info and will teach you alot. Makes working on these trucks that much more fun and you can see what someone else has done and see if it works for you. Welcome again.

Here are some interior pics:

Cracked dash pad. Are there any other places to buy one besides ebay for $80? Also is the metal mount where an altimeter and other gauges went?

This is the worst part of the interior. Where can I buy the plastic side panels?

Also my driver side seat belt is cracked, so it falls down all the time. Where can I get one, or is there any way to fix it; like sew a button so it doesn't slide?

As for the seat belt u need a "seat belt stop button" sold at most auto parts stores for around $6 for 2 of them. Try a pick a part/junk yard for the side panels. Be careful though most I've seen are brittle from sun and age so they crack real easy when removing them.

I'm back again with another question. The ride of the truck is really rough and I think I need some new suspension parts. The front leafs are practically flat and all of the rancho shocks have some rust on them and look old. What are your suspension set ups? Don't forget that this is a daily driver and not a trail truck, just some mild off roading. What I think I am going to do is call a local guy and see what his quote is.

Forget a cushy ride man. Solid axle trucks weren't made for comfort. They were made for men. You'll have to get used to bouncing around the cab when you hit some bumps, its part of the experience.

Does anyone know where to buy a carpet kit. I found the website stockinteriors and was wondering if anyone has had experience with them?

Ok, I replaced an 85 22r with a 84 22r. I have one problem, no dipstick. The dipstick lenths are different from the two years. I have no idea how much oil is in my truck. Can anyone tell me the lenth of the 84 oil dipstick?

Hey Blake, you should make your own thread when you have questions, but probably any junkyard will have an 85 22r dipstick lying around.

^Yota Dude, I really like your truck, it's just about the perfect height in my opinion and that body is clean. Not sure where to find a carpet kit, but upholstery shops can usually hook you up with fabric/carpet/waterboard and nice glue if you're handy.

Thanks. I am getting some free samples from stockinteriors.com soon, and will see how they work out.
