Try using .023 wire on the Lowest setting. You will still have to stitch it to prevent warpage and burn through, but it will be better than the .030.

I have the best luck with that setup when welding this paper thin Toyota metal.

Have you even rebuilt a tranny or t-case before? I was just wondering how easy it was to do and how much expertise/prior experience you have? I want to rebuild mine and I am obviously very in-tune to everything automotive, but transmissions kind of scare me a bit. Words of advice or encouragement?

I guess I started out on dirtbike engine/trannys and then lawnmower trannys to get the driveway plowed. Even built a hybrid aw4 for the ol ladys 99' cherokee. As long as you have the service manual follow it. If the vehicle is not your only transportation so it can be down if parts need ordering, then I would not be affraid. Need to have the right tools and that includes a press and pullers, torque wrench, feeler gauges, micrometer, and some other tools that should be listed in the manual.

I figured with your build thread, there's nothing you haven't done

Sick truck, btw.

Thanks for the advice. I've just never had to tear into one, but I have heard horror stories from those that have but should not have. I might give it a shot.

The tranny and t-case are the only two things I didn't touch on my truck. I have the more rare L52 tranny so I have been afraid of screwing it up or not having replacement parts available.

Man you're making good work! Jealous of the patience you've put into doing the body work. Those ORX look awesome.
