yotantn's 1981 Pickup Build-Up Thread

Update.
On the rack in the shop! They're rerunning new brake lines, shoes, hardware and all today. Plus replace the NEW master because it was not working properly. Should be covered under warranty.
Taking top off carb today to see if can find the problem with it.. Probably gunked up again from tank trash before I had the tank restored.
Maybe won't have to rebuild it.. Again.
Note.. Don't put a rebuilt carb back in with a 32 year old tank. Even with a new fuel filter.
Gonna fix the light issue too. That shouldn't be that big of a deal.
Worked great before I took all my wires outta the fuse box when I removed the dash.
New tires and white wagon wheel rims mounted and ready, lettering out. :-)
Hope to have it back on the road this Thursday. Yeah.
Going for visitation tonight.
Little boy at Chrimus. :-)

[/IMG]There ya go! She's doing well. I had hoped she'd be discharged this Thursday. But...there was a problem with some parts coming in.
But hopefully, this weekend, we'll be rocking and rolling!
Also replacing the front stabilizer and shocks all the way around while its up on a rack.
She looked good, appreciated the flowers I brought and said she was glad I came for a visit.

Well, I can't believe you'd put Terri in front of me! LOL.
You certainly have priorities right my friend.
No prob.
I'll get with you later on it.
Long story short, it's a case of 'you get what you pay for'.
Second lesson is to NOT ever again order parts from Advance Auto. Use Napa.
AA screwed up so many things, wrong shoe sizes, left off items and cylinders that bust.

Ok..THIS is what a 22R sounds like AFTER it's had a rebuilt carb on it, a 32 year old tank flaky tank fling trash into the newly rebuilt carb, tank reconditioned in Pennsylvania, carb removed again and cleaned...
Yes...NOTE...Just save yourself the trouble and take the tank off and clean it if you are going to put a freshly rebuilt carb back on it.
NOWWWW baby we're getting somewhere!

Brakes redone front to back, new calipers, pads/shoes/cylinders/Master Cylinder and new lines ran.
New shocks all around, new front stabilizer. New rims mounted on some good used tires. Still need to wash her all up and touch up those white letters on the tires.

At this point, just need to get some OLD wiring fixed where I took the dash out to be painted, get speedo back in...and
I'm ready to bring her home!
Which, might..fingers crossed, MIGHT happen tomorrow evening.
I had it towed to another shop today (lets just say there was differences of opinion and attitude at the last shop).
As we pulled up this dood came outta the shop office and said 'I'll give you $1,500 right now, as is. I laughed out loud. He smiled, and said Ok..$2,000.00. I laughed louder.
He said he had one just like it in 1980, bought from same place and wished he'd have kept his.
I made sure they pulled it IN the shop tonight.

I so love this truck.
Probably not healthy,lol.. but..still.
I'm getting her back running again and getting to a starting place.
I've got her nursery ready in the garage, ready to bring her back home.

There's the nursery...does that answer your question? lol
I ordered some screw cover trim and am putting that on.
Think I'm gonna need more.

damn sounds like a strange story with the other mecanic, what happened? They did all the work then changed their attitude? After having worked for a dealership for 2.5 years, having a mecanic girlfriend and friends, I know the ''game'', and that's why I do all the work myself...it's incredible how some people get raped at a garage or dealership.
Glad to see that atleast things are working out, and that the truck will be back on the road soon! Must be a great feeling for you after all these years. One thing I don't understand is how the dirt from the fuel tank could have gone past the fuel filter, then into the carb to cause problem. If the dirt was large enough to cause problem in the carb, how come it went past the fuel filter??

And he agreed. It's all good. Just wasn't right. I was really relieved to get it back on the rollback and to this other shop. I have enough drama with 8 women I work with, let along garage drama. He's a good guy, just busy with 11 cars waiting and all the other mess he had to deal with. And, I don't think he had his head wrapped around the carb really well. The other guy had it running in a couple of hours.
But he did do the brakes, shocks and repack bearings and front stabilizer.
It's so cool how it sits up higher now. Those shocks were the ORIGINALS and it had really squatted down.
ULTIMATELY, she'll get a 3" lift, mudders and power steering. But for right now, I just want her mobile again.
Now, to the fuel filter ?
What I think happened is we put the carb back on, dirty tank, but new filter.
BUT>>>We did NOT clear the lines going to the carb.
So, once it turned over, it spewed stuff that had been in those lines between the carb and the fuel filter..it shot it into the carb, and the rest is history.
Enter the group therapy:
Hi..My name is Mark and I have a Toyota truck. LOL
