Here is my new to me 1983 Hilux. Really hard to find these trucks in the northeast, so I bought one from the southwest and had it shipped here.
Nice unmolested truck. Cleanest frame I've ever seen. My 04 taco frame is on its last leg.. Bonus parts from PO. Tailgate wont open. So nice Interior is decent. Cracked dash and PO screwed a basket to it... Radio missing and plastic is broke above and below ashtray. Blurry pic...
Gonna enjoy driving it for a week before I park it for the winter. This truck will never see road salt!!!
So the plan is to search for interior parts this winter. I'm not a big fan of the brown and would like to change to grey. Wont need dash or steering column parts as I have plans for that.
I have been reading a lot of build threads on here and I have seen some great ideas. I am looking forward to slowly making this truck mine. Hope you enjoyed the pics 😁
I agree that's a nice truck. You can definitely fix that dash and to fix the tailgate, just climb inside and remove the access panels to see where the linkage/handle isn't connecting.
I wish you all the best of luck trying to find a factory radio. They're not cheap.
Are you going to keep the topper on the bed? They're all the overland rage these days but personally I think these trucks look a lot cleaner without them.
Rear bumper looks like it's off a 90's truck maybe?
The dash piece is broke in muliple spots and has extra screws holding it on.
I do plan on removing the cap in the spring. Not sure of it's future and will have to think about it over the winter. The radio is probably a lost cause, not paying 1k for a 38 year old radio 😆. The rear bumper looks good, not sure of the year. I do have the facory reinforcement brackets and frame from original though.
Have an appointment to get a new windshield on Wednesday. After that it will be parked for the winter. Chasing down little parts here and there. Still trying to figure out if grey was a factory interior color for this year. If it was I gotta find a couple grey parts for when I can do the interior makeover 😁
Fixed one of my rattles this morning. The plastic bushing for the hood prop was whooped. Went to the local dealer and they had a replacement rubber gromet for it.
Not having a radio is allowing me to find the source of these squeaks and rattles before she gets parked for the winter. Also did some digging at Toyota Parts website and found part numbers for grey interior trim. Now I can hunt for pieces all winter 😁
Good news! Looks like I have the parts for the power steering. I can only assume that the pump was leaking or bad and that's why the PO removed it.
Bad news... The weather has turned and I had to park the truck till spring. Sprayed some peppermint oil around the tires, on frame, and a little inside to keep the critters away. Covered the front half with a moving blanket and tarped. Next year the garage will be built...
Going to be a long winter of research and waiting 😆. Been going through some of the build threads on here and there has been some awesome work done on these old trucks. Thank you all for the inspiration.
Also noticed I'm missing two of the plastic pieces on the lug nuts. If I can't find a couple by spring I might have 18 for sale 😆.

Very cool truck. I bought a '82 2WD this year and I'm also working through the little issues and getting it tuned up. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. I'll admit that I really like the brown interior, though mine is definitely worn--cracked dash, worn seats, broken off stereo volume knob. Here in Colorado it's bone dry and mostly still unseasonably warm so I'm getting stuff done still (halfway though shock replacement).
