I didnt wanna risk missing out the truck so I paid the $10,000 he was asking. Never thought I'd spend that on an 80 but was totally worth it.

I browse Craigslist all the time (heck, that was how I found my truck), and I remember seeing that listing. It didn't occur to me that someone I know I would buy it, so it's pretty cool to see the truck's in good hands

What should have been a an hours job turned into weeks when I did the timing cover. The timing cover had to go on before the oil pan as well as all the front engine accessories. To start, the chrome shop messed up the hardware 3 times in a row. When I finally got the timing cover on I went to install the balancer but it kept pinching the seal so I had to pull it off, wait on a new gasket then drill the dowel pin holes and line it up myself. Once lined up I needed to pull the balancer to tighten the bolts then re install. To make things worse every time I tried to install it the all thread installer tool I made was trying to strip out and made installing the balancer a pain. Then the puller stripped out. What a nightmare. However I was able to get everything on with success last night after all the BS I’ve had to deal with. Now parts will be flying off the wall and onto the truck.
Finally finally finally found the Weld Racing HR30 wheels my truck used to have! Thought I would never find a set of these and recently found out they are only 1 of 8 sets ever made! This is the last big missing piece of the puzzle and I can finally put the truck back the way it was when I first saw it.

Been hammering down to get this project rolling full steam ahead. Took my original sending unit and removed all the factory parts off it and modified a GM 0-90 universal sending unit. Going to use rivnuts to re attached the modified fuel filler plate that way I can fill the tank and see where it cuts off. It had screw holes which half were stripped out. Now I’ll know exactly where it fills up to and I already know the empty level position. The gauge will read as close to accurate As possible. Spent a couple days on all the little details but it is always worth the extra time to do it the right way.
Before it had simple holes drilled in it which combined with fine thread screws would never be strong enough to properly secure the fuel filler. The rivnuts look and work much better. The surface of the rivnut is 0.03 while the Karropak gasket material is 0.0625 so it’s just thick enough to give the gasket room to squeeze down. Should make for a great long lasting seal.
next is to flush out the tank with a few gallons of gas. Then refill to full and recheck the sending unit to make sure it’s going to read correctly

Took a trip to summit racing to get a few goodies. A 48x24” sheet of real carbon fiber to make the gauge panel and console switch panels. Also picked up a Moroso chrome oil filter.
Made tons of progress recently. Finally got the scoop to clear the hood, all linkage is setup and I’ve nearly finished building the whole fuel system from scratch. Pulled the leaking master cylinder out to rebuild and it’s off to the paint shop next week along with the rear disc brake conversion. I’m so close to being able to install the giant stack of parts I had chromed over a year ago now. Things are going to start moving very fast here soon.
Also made the switch to red butterflies on the scoop which is the only red on the truck. Even tho it originally had polished I absolutely love the red but I still have the polished to switch it up if I want.
Sneaking the fuel line to the tank was a task. Before it actually ran thru the cab and was hardly visible from the engine bay or underneath the truck. It needed to be as functional as possible while still easy to work on but most of all appear nice. Pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Man, this whole thread is amazing to watch it's resurrection. I can see and feel the pride that you are taking in it.
What do you plan to do once it's completed? (it's not every really 'completed', LOL).

yes you are correct, they are never truly “completed”. I will always want to make a build better over time but before long it will be complete and solid enough to call it done for now.
I have 2 main goals for this truck. Since it has not been street legal in 31 years I want to make it legal and road worthy as possible for a show truck. My other goal is to take it to Super Chevy Show next year if possible and re create the picture. I also want to drive it to every car show, cruise or burger joint I can with my Dad. After all it is only so important to me because of him.
Got all the fuel line sorted and fastened up for good. I had to make 2 brackets to anchor it at the front and back of the transmission. Hand made the brackets from stainless then polished them. Fastened up with billet hose clamps. Transfer case is goin back on this weekend and exhaust is next.
The wait on on so many parts to be sorted or get back from the chrome shop has put this off for so long. What seems like it could be done so soon has gone on for what seems like forever. Things are about to really speed up on this project. I may just disappear for a while to get this truck going.
