Recently picked up an '81 Longbed 4x4. Been lurking on Yotatech for a while and decided it's time to start a build thread.
How it came to me:
Rebuilt 1985 22R
Old Man Emu front springs
1/2 ton Chevy rear springs
super worn out Rancho 9000's
1985 front axle
1991 rear axle housing
rear electric locking dif from 1998 4Runner
SR5 Bucket seats
Custom aluminum camper box that unbolts into a tray back flatbed
All the above work was done by the P/O who is a good friend of mine.
Only things I've done so far were new tires, replaced section of fluid clutch line, removed a little rust.
Long list of dreaming but have a couple of big projects in mind for the winter. Should have some actual updates next weekend.
Looks like a solid truck. What are your build plans for it? Welcome to Yotatech.
Thank you. It will generally be used for hunting and camping. Build plans are mostly related to reliability and use as a base camp for various adventures. The big project for the winter will be conversion from it's current pop top state (similar to a Westfalia) into something more akin to a Flippac style camper with a sleeping loft over the cab. Most of the other projects I have in mind are heavily influenced by various overland setups.
Currently I'm fiberglass patching one of the rusted out fenders. Will have photos up when done.
Some pictures of the fiberglass job. Not perfect but I ended up cutting out way more material than I had expected. Should be good for another 25 years. Also, Rusto Almond is a pretty good match on the sun faded side.
