I bought this pickup about 2 weeks ago, and though its a lot of fun as it is, it needs a lotttt of work to be considered trail worthy. 83 4x4, 22r, dash reads 280k but it seems that its been rebuilt, 9" total lift, 35" super swampers, welded rear, bed bob. Plans include; completely redo interior (the girlfriend cant stand it now), 5.29s, lockers (feel free to make suggestions, im fairly new to this), new front d-line (flange broke and figured id just completely replace the whole thing), dual cases, lots of armor, and some new tires soon. It seems to sit a little higher than id like, but I figured in the future id like to run maybe 2 more inches of tire, so it would work out ok. Like most, im broke as hell and intend this on being a longgg build. Any suggestions are welcome.

(Dont mind the dummys in the bed, and hood ornament.)

 

Looks like a great base.
Poop can the body lift. Looks like it could use some front bump stops.

 

Yea great truck to start with. I'm going to start fixing my little brothers up in a few weeks.

 

thanks for the input, was thinking the same thing with the body lift. it turns heads and all the kids love it, but i think it has to go. ill have to look into the bumpstops, hasnt even crossed my mind until now.

thanks. needs some cosmetic work as well. the bumper was bent to hell when i bought it, and i just so happened to rip the thing off on a manzanita bush last weekend (perfect excuse to get a new one!). the bed bob looks poorly done, but doesnt really matter considering the bed is fairly rusted. the truck flopped once, so the cab around the driver door is a little funky, yet magically wont let in a drop of water. lots of work, but with a wonderful motor i havent regretted the $1600 purchase yet!

 

If yoy ditch that body lift it would be ab almost perfectly set up truck...

x3 on ditching the body lift. not only is it hidious, but your girlfriend will like the bigger sticks in the cab haha.

 

That is pretty close to what i started with. and i paid close to about the same.
Loved my 1st gen and regret getting rid of it everyday.

the only issue i can see (being an absolute n00b and probably not even know what im looking at) is the the front bistein mounts have no room to give, not quite the 3 inches. my girlfriend hates jumping up into it, ive actually ate $%~+ twice now trying to get in hahaha!

ill throw one up tomorrow. i guess th best way to describe it, is the top of the hoop the shock mounts to is maybe 2" away from the wheel well..

Well first thing's first: I have to get legal. Pulled the manifold and headers out of a buddies parts truck, and bought a belt for the smog pump. New cat, and should be good to go. Also, might be trading out my rusty bed for his nice, perfect one on the parts truck! Start my education at UTI on the 20th, getting excited to learn and transform the yote!
