1980 SR5 pickup build (Project Rust Bucket)

Well I am finally back on the forum, after years of being idle. Living in a whole nother' state now and finally decided to get another toy, after having to sell my previous first gen during the move. I found an 80 pickup, its the SR5 with sunroof, buckets, fancy dash. $300 drove it home, barely made it, but what do you expect for $300 right? Anyways the interior is filthy, full of trash, reeks like cigarettes. Body is, well, very rusty. Pretty much hammered. Has the 4 speed L43, totally wore out. Manual steering, no power. The transfer case lever isnt working right, 4WD light on dash stays on, cant get lever to neutral position. Engine is dumping oil all over my shop floor. Trans is so sloppy its a total guess which gear your going for. And the list goes on.

Plans: Return to original condition as much as possible. Frame off, clean everything up, paint & body work, interior, mild suspension mods. Maybe custom flatbed or fiberglass bed. As much new sheetmetal as possible or good used stuff. Swap in drivetrain from an 82 truck. So on and so forth.

Look forward to seeing progress on the truck. Also just an fyi if you need it I have a thread to download A FSM for an 83 if you want. Mechanical should mostly be the same but the wiring will probably be different.

Got my engine tore down and ready for the machine shop, its an 82 dual row block! Finally figured out what trans I have, the input bearing is the 032-2, so its an L50.

Engine will be mildly built with RV cam from ENGNBLDR, Trail-Gear header, and Weber 32/36 carburetor. Going with a new head also.

Got trans tore down and proper overhaul kit ordered.

Got engine tore down and ready to go to machine shop.

Need to rip out my 80 drivetrain and get the 20R cylinder head off and to the machine shop.

Ordered front axle rebuild kit with backing plate eliminators and wheel bearings.

Steamed off the entire truck.

Picked up some 15x7 TRD wheels off a 4Runner. Looking for some good used 31x10.5R15 tires.

I know they are off of a 90 something runner, thought all 6x5.5 would work?

bolt pattern is the same , so they will bolt up , But the offset or center section where the wheel bolts to the hub is in a different location then what you need . Take them back right now and get your money back .. they wont work on this gen truck

If you want to run those wheels you have to use wheel spacers. Great project btw!
