First Generation 4runner Cargo Basket Help
Hello my name is Patrick Hunt and i own a 87 4runner. I am looking to put a cargo basket on the top, but i don't think the fiberglass gutters would be able to hold weight. I thought about bolting it to the top, but then when i take off the shell i wouldn't have one.
The photo is my idea so far. I though of putting flat metal probably 1/8 thick on the bed of the truck below the fiberglass. this way all the weight of the rack would be on the bed, not the shell. I have attached a photo of a design that i have. it looks like it will be expensive around $1,000. I was wondering if someone had a better idea, or knew anyone that would be able to help me in the Utah Area.
If you have any questions let me know. The round bars across the top are so i will be able to hook yakima bike racks to the rack.
Thanks Pat

i was looking to spend more like $400-500. I was also thinking of putting the roof rack on a different way. I was thinking of attaching it to the back of the vehicle. The drawing that i have is connected to the bumper or to the frame. I don't think i like this idea because i don't think they will hold much weight.
I was thinking about hooking it to the trailer hitch that it welded and bolted to the bottom. I am looking for a little help and some ideas on what to do. If you have any let me know.
Also is there a way to attach a photo to a quick reply
