2010 4runner question

Embargo for now, sorry.
Pricing is TBD. With the USD in freefall and our deficit being funded with funny money, it's anyone's guess what will happen to JDM produced vehicles. Of course increases are spread throughout the lineup, but still...

And consider Toyota's situation with 4th Gen still selling (with incentives), inventory ample and still in production, why would they want to gin up excitement for the 5th Gen now? No worries about them selling them, new gens historically sell well for the first two years.

I don't agree. I have a 4800lbs 4Runner with a 22RE (116hp). It keeps up with traffic fine. If I wanted a sports car, I would have bought a.... sports car!
The advantages to the 4cyl as I see it are:
mpg's
initial cost
lower labour costs for repairs
more room in the engine bay

Huh? The 4-cylinder 1990 4Runner has a curb weight of 3720 lbs.

Bigger tires and protective gear does not add up to 1000 pounds.
#109
you also listed the curb weight of a 2 door 4runner, which is indeed lighter... with driver and fuel and 4 doors and mods, he's got 1000 pounds...

The weight of fuel is little different from his 4Runner to mine, and unless he has significant added tankage, he has less fuel than I do. My 4th Gen has a larger fuel tank, but the difference is immaterial -- 17.2 gallons versus 23 gallons, for a difference of a whopping 36 pounds.
As for the 2 door versus 4 door, you are correct that the 4 door is heavier. A whole 40 lbs heavier at 3760

It makes no sense to compare the weight of his truck with driver and full fuel, with the weight of my truck with no driver and no fuel.
His mods weigh 1000 pounds? I doubt it.

I am NOT arguing that the curb weights of your two vehicles are similar or anything at all to that caliper. Thats all lol.

Back to the 5th gen.....
Much has been posted about the 5th gens engine offerings including the revised V6 and a 4cyl, but no one has really mentioned anything about whether or not it will ride on a new chassis? Some preliminary specs of height/length were mentioned but they were very close to the exisiting one so its tough to say for certain.
just very anxious to find out more tid bits I guess

My understanding is the revised 1GR is rated for full output on regular grade.
I posted earlier about the modified frame. Supposedly the rear section in particular was modified for more stiffness (not sure which direction) while the rear suspension was tweaked to allow more flex.
Mind you this came from one of my TMS friends quoted earlier, heh.

It doesn't make sense to make it bigger, since then it would be encroaching on the Land Cruiser and Sequoia. If they made it smaller, then they couldn't have the pointless 3rd row.
I thought I read somewhere that the rear of the frame has been beefed up somewhat to improve stiffness. I'm anxious as well to see it.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS – The all-new 2010 Toyota 4Runner is headed for Dallas to make its world debut at the State Fair of Texas during a news conference on Sept. 24. More rugged than ever, the new fifth-generation 4Runner offers sure-footed off-road capability and increased comfort with added roominess. More than 1.8 million 4Runners have been sold since it was introduced in 1984, and more than 70 percent are still on the road. The State Fair of Texas runs Sept. 25 to Oct. 18.

I'm liking what I see...

Can't see a whole lot. I'm surprised there's no fog light, unless it is integrated into the headlamp cluster. It looks like it still has a solid rear axle, judging by the link visible near the left rear tire.
Roomier? I wonder if it is bigger in plan, or if they just increased the headroom (which was a bit lacking in the 4th Gen)?
ETA: And thanks for posting the pic!
