So my buddy has an 83 nissan/datsun 720 4x4. 5speed. the timing chain is bad and I told him i might be able to do it for him if its anything similar to the 22re. It is gasoline, but i need to find out if its the 2.2 or the 2.4 first

Now does any body know anything about these motors? I've done a couple timing jobs on a 22re, and if its anything similar im sure I could figure it out. any good nissan forums out there? any advice? thanks

 

Its all just nuts and bolts, it may take a little longer to figure things out but when it comes down to it they all have the same basic components.

 

the z24 (which I would bet it has) is a simple motor. Just a normal chain job, nothing special. If you want a Nissan forum to play around in fot info though check nissanoffroad.net (simple enough). theres a section dedicated to 720s there

 

I had an '84 for a few years. The timing chain isn't much different than on the Toyota motors.

Watch out for cracked cylinder head. Those things are prone to cracking between the intake & exhaust valve seats.
