I know you always poo-poo the idea, Michael, hahaha... But why not come down here and grab one to drive back? TONS of rust free ones down here that are NOT held in monopoly campaigns by the likes of a "Hayes" style reseller! lol. I get it... it's a ways to come, but for possibly saving a couple grand or close and getting a no rust mall crawler? MIGHT be worth it, no?

Like I said, totally get not wanting to... but just throwing it out there... Lots of LC's, too.

Here's the video. Not as loud as I thought it would be ( its much louder in person, but the automatic kinda ruins it. :/ ) With a 5 speed, it'll be able to rev past 3800. lol

Haha thanks! i actually just went to change the spark plugs on my stang for the first time and what do you know! They aren't 5/8s... which is really weird. Because 289 heads are 5/8s. they're 9/16s! ( i bought 289 plugs so they wont work. ) Low and behold I have 302 heads atop my 289! which also explains why my car is a quite a bit faster than my brothers stang that has the same mods my 289 has. ( and my car poops on his at any speed ) Kind of cool. 302 heads are known to breath a helluva lot better.

Also, when you watch the video. Be sure to notice it chirps into 3rd gear. Usually it does 2nd as well, but ever since i changed out the tires to hankook v12s. it doesn't do it a whole lot anymore.

Sounds awesome

When I was initially looking for a vehicle, I was mainly searching for Toyota Trucks/4Runners and Fox Body Ford Mustangs...that video kind of makes me wish I had gotten the Mustang...

I love love love fox bodies... by far my favorite. 93 cobras are teh sex. for sure. but being in california. 5.0s are a pain in the ass to smog. so its better to buy a classic and mod it the way you want to.

I do not envy you California guys I grew up loving chevys and I'm not really a Ford guy, but there is just something about a Fox Mustang that is just awesome. I would've been a cool first car or something cool to drive around while in college, but I don't think I'd buy one in the future. I mean, once I finally get out of college, move out, get a decent job and house and whatnot, I'd like to start building my dream car...

a 55 Chevy two door post gasser just like this, except with a 1 piece tilt front end Straight axle, fender well headers, 4 speed...

Sorry for the thread jack

What's next for the 'stang other than a 5 speed swap?

Those are really nice as well... We have a local town meet here called downtown tuesdays. and everyone brings out their cars in the summer. theres a few 55-57 chevies that have straight axles... i'll try and get a few pictures next time i go.

Well I swapped out the spark plugs yesterday because two of them were fouled. ( i'll take pictures of them later ) But I just ordered a MSD Distributor from a guy off craigslist ( he was asking 280 for a brand new in box plug n play unit, i just couldn't pass it up. they're originally 370 + shipping ) So when that gets to me, i'll be able to assemble my wires, slap that on and then order a GAL ignition box and probably pick up about 8-10 horse.

But my next "big project" is going to be getting the shock tower fixed. I'm putting 300 a pay check into savings to save for it. I also kind of want to do a 5 speed swap the same time as all that because i have to pull the motor. so it'll be easy to just swap a clutch/flywheel onto it. assemble the cable, bolt the tranny to the engine, and just swap it all in. Im not sure on the driveshaft whether it'll fit or not. but its reasonably cheap to get a new one turned.

So the gas tank seal failed on my mustang so now if its on a hill, it leaks out the back at the gas cap. time for a new gasket and seal! I air'd my shocks back up for temporary fix.

Yeah, my tank seal failed too, lol... Easy fix... coo

Gonna be really nice to see it finished. But it's just as fun watching it 'grow up', haha...

Curious... are you doing the green with the cream white stripes on the hood/etc.? Or just the Green? I just saw one the other day, so it threw me off, haha.

I fixed the gas tank seal. it was just a 8 dollar rubber gasket.no more issues.

Yeah, even in its current condition, it gets lots of looks and compliments on it. Mainly from dudes because well... it looks like a hot rod ( no hood, primer paint job, loud ass exhaust ) But when its nice, and 100% restored. im sure it'll be loved by everyone.

I'll be going with the original color which is Dark Moss green. Its a very dark color, practically black at night. and im not doing any stripes. My buddy thinks i should do yellow racing stripes up the middle of the car, but no... lol

Here's my new goodies for the Mustang. I still need to get an ignition box and a rev limiter chip. But this'll do for now. Going to be advancing the timing and installing this on monday. Should see a nice increase in power from the advanced timing. But the ignition box is where the power is at. MSD claims a full ignition system is a 25 horsepower increase but I should honestly see about 7-10.

Yeah. I've swapped two or three dizzies in my lifetime on these kind of cars and never have i had the driveshaft come out lame. I'm having a buddy who's a ford tech realign the driveshaft, pop the dizzy in and set everything to TDC. that way i can pop the coil on, and the wires then time it at 8-10 degrees.

Yeah, when going through a few of around 30 Hot rods that my brothers and myself restored/fixed up to sell/whatever..... .When we dug in, that's one thing that usually needed attention... They get SLOP-HAPPY! lol. Or, just for upgrades sake. It's happened a couple times... and oddly enough, ONLY with Mustang 289's! haha... Had several other ford and merc rigs we dug into... never had this happen. The 390? CAKE! 429? CAKE! lol. My factory Hi-Po 289 did NOT do it,.... but 2 of 5 mustangs with stock 289's that we did gave us drama. We did the same thing, gave our buddy 40$ and a six pack(s'all he did, tune work on hot rods)...and VOILA, he made it look simple! hahaha. It's not always simple/easy to go WRONG! LOL.

Cool, can't wait to see it rollin!

Yeah. Im paying him $50 bucks and a 6 pack of sierra nevada's to come work his magic. Hes been a ford tech for years now. He's got the tool to set the driveshaft correctly. he'll make me look like an idiot, im sure.

So i've been thinking really hard about what to get to replace my Toyota. im REALLY ready for a new one. but im trying to think of what I can benefit the most with. I want something that can tow. I really like the power of the 4.0 v6. so tacoma's and FJ Cruisers sound really good. as well as the 4th gen 4Runners. but What about a v8 4th gen? My uncle bought an 01 tundra brand new and it just clocked over 200k with just oil/air filter changes and minor tune ups. Plus I know the 2006+ 4Runners have a 280 horsepower monster under the hood. I could easily tow my mustang around for repairs while the motor is out with it. As well as having a 4 door SUV that has tons of aftermarket and strong support. Not to mention, I could also keep it forever, mod it and still have it be acceptable by a female significant other due to it being a 3 row seater family vehicle. ( i would do what i did with my 2nd gen, lift, tires, bumpers, and expedition mods )

So that might be the next rig i get.

Yep, it's a tough choice......

My pop's has this baby........

I have a better pic somewhere, but it's CHERRY, 4WD, V8 Crewcab Tundra with front and rear seat heat/coolers, roll down rear window, etc., ... and it's given him NOT ONE problem since brand new. 180K or so? Most of that was over just a couple years when he used to drive ..... Now he's just not safe out there anymore.... so his wife or my bro-in-law drives it for him now.

Anyway.... I just like how BIG it is in there... HUGE console and just every gizmo/hiding place you can imagine. TONS of power, too.

I can see how a 4Runner would be nice, too. Lil bit smaller, but plenty of power and gizmo's too, lol. Seen them turned into beautiful expo rigs. I'm sure you've seen em.

So you've given up for the most part on the LC hunt? Want something newer? I know you wanted 93 and under, right? Why was that again? Suspension stuff's? I've just read so many good things on them running 300K miles no problem... tons of room.. Found one the other day, factory lockers front and rear, special edition one... 6500$ OBO... Papers with 19K on new motor still under warranty... lots of extras, etc. Think I sent it to Maltese4runner, .

Best wishes on the hunt, man!
