what are you most concerned about? stones? or damage caused by whipping tree branches? if stones, consider the 3M protective film. it is very thick and comes with a damage warranty.

personally, i think those wire mesh headlight covers are sorta goofy looking and a bit tacky. it screams "i'm drivin' a jeep w/ the square headlights, baby!" and has the look and feel of the 80's mustangs that had that louvered taillight covers made popular by vanilla ice's "ice, ice, baby" video...you know, the one where he's "rollin' in da 5.0" (someone finish the song up for me)

thats my opinion, so my apologies if it was an offensive opinion.

JC Whitney carries them for both rectangle and round headlights (as well as marker lights) in both black and chrome.

I got one for my dirt bike after I broke a head light lens. Of course, I don't get roosted as much driving my truck as I did riding my bike.

AeroFlow has HeadLight Covers that will protect the headlights from damage. They aren't mesh, but are 3/16" thick molded acrylic, much thicker than the film, and absorb impact energy, and are attached with 3M Dual-Lok adhesive fasteners for easy on-off removal for cleaning. See our recent post here or visit www.aeroflowscreens.com.
