I have a set of stock 1997's all the way around, which should be the same as the 99's.

So the 1999's had taller coils than the 97's?

from Sonoran Steel
1996 had it's own coil, it was quickly replaced in 1997 with a coil that ran until some time in 1998. It seems that when Toyota depleted it stock of this 97-98 coil some 1998 model year 4Runners that were built late in the model year did get the 9 wrap 1999 coil. The 1999 coil ran throughout all of the 1999 model year and for most of the 2000 model year. Where is seems that the 2000 4Runner built toward the end of the model year did get the lower 2001-2002 front coils. So some 2000's may have the 9 wrap and some may not. Some 1998 may have the 9 wrap some may not. No 1996 or 1997 or 2001 or 2002 will have the 9 wrap coil. All 1999's with V6, 4WD and 16" wheels from the factory have the 9 wrap coil.

I've got some from my 2000 4Runner (bought Dec. '99 so it has the same coils). They have about 45k miles on them. $50 + shipping.
