I know there are many folks here that can speak with much authority about your engine options and the inherent pros and cons of each. But as a reference, I have a stock '88 with IFS and a 3zve. You may want to check some of the other threads as I think you may be looking at swapping out tranny and axles in addition to the motor mounts.
