Good question. I lived in Japan for a long time. I had some great salvage yards near me and was a very regular customer. Hope I have something you need.

I also have a very nice bull bar from a 3rd gen Hilux Surf (4Runner) - it is the OEM unit and has the Hilux Surf logo on it - maybe you guys have seen this if not please check out these pictures - these are from a google search for 1997 Hilux Surf - the part I have is identical and in excellent condition - the color is silver:

Oh, I thought junk yards were scarce in Japan because of the limited and high value of land. My brother had delt with a guy in Oregon that buys wrecked suzuki's from Japan and parts them out.

Salvage yards are all over the place in Japan, if they were not the country would be overflowing with cars, the life span of a car in Japan is much much less than here in the states. Due to very stringent inspections, Japanese people tend to just buy new cars instead of fixing up the old one for 15 years - they would rather buy new cars every 5 years or less.

Your correct when you say land is expensive and it is a small country, so your yards are smaller and the cars stacked higher, they also crush cars quickly so the cars in the yards are not there very long, that is why I would go normally 2 times a week and see new cars all the time - most cars that I did see were actually driveable and some really nice condition.

It is basically a used car parts wonderland!
