1997 4Runner - Great Shape, Needs Engine Love
Great body/interior and has a few offroad goodies (OME lift, tires, etc), BUT, has a cracked head and the engine is currently apart. Asking $5500 and I'm in Sacramento, CA. Look here for details and feel free to email/call me with questions:

No offense guy, but $5500 is a crazy price for a 97 with 170k, a blown motor and no cat.
I can get one locally for almost the same price, and not have to replace an engine or a cat:

Here is one with 140k for $4450, granted it has a rebuilt title:

'96 4Runners can be had for even less, and they are the EXACT same truck.

So, you're not interested then? Thanks for the opinion, but this truck does come with about $2000 worth of stuff that you won't find with most 4Runners, and that most off road type folks would be looking to add anyways. If you don't like the price, make me an offer or ask some questions, I'm a nice guy!

Guy, i'm just trying to help you out. I have been trying to sell my 2000 which has 2k+ in goodies and doesn't need an engine, and no one will touch it. I've been down this road, and the goodies do not negate the expense to find the parts and fix the truck. Especially a '97. An '01 or '02 maybe. MAYBE.
The market is falling out from under these trucks. With gas prices, more and more people cannot afford to go wheeling. Or lift their trucks. Or drive V6 gas hogs. When I bought my 4runner, gas was $3 a gallon. Now its $4.50 and that was just 5 months ago.

I am just trying to help the guy. Take it however you will.
$5500 is just plain unrealistic. Take a look at local markets, and see how much they are going for with those miles. Then subtract a new engine (~$1500) and a new cat ($150 for a cheap aftermarket one) plus labor (~$1000) for an engine swap. Then you need to factor in the cat being aftermarket, and the high miles.
In this market, no one cares about the goodies on the truck. Generally, 3rd gens are grocery getter trucks and people do not wanted a lifted truck.

Deathcouger is right. Its a bad time to sell these things. Keep it and fix it. You will be able to get your money back out of it if you just drive it.
