1991 4Runner SAS

Updates

See the link at cars.com but basically I am trying to sell my 4Runner. Was my daily driver for 4 years but was time for a change which is why I bought my 2000 4Runner. I haven't wheeled it since May '05. Matter of fact it has barely been driven since then. Asking $3900. Truck is in Appleton, WI but was originally a NC vehicle. Moved up to WI in 2003.

New battery
New tcase rear output seal, comp flange, and breather - no more leaky tcase
New rear pinion seal
New Longfield for the short side (not installed yet)
New tcase shift linkage bushings

I have started driving it again and it is running great.

Problems:

Power steering leak
Ramsey ProPlus 8000 winch is broke but plan to fix it soon
RS9000's on the front are probably due for a replacement

Rear ARB locker, front LockRight
2.5 gallon air tank mounted b/w frame rails tied to ARB compressor. Quick connect fitting for air ups.
Front springs are Alcans
Rear is All Pro spacers, panhard bracket and Perf Prod coils
All Pro hy steer
Front axle rebuilt for SAS done in 2001
Timing belt, idlers, tensioner, and water pump replaced at 166,000.
Many hoses and gaskets replaced in 2004
Gears are 4.88s
Rear MTRs have about 7000 miles on them
Owner since 1999 and 139,000 miles. Used only synthetic oils
Rear driveshaft re-tubed with thicker tubing
Head gasket recall done by Toyota at 80,000

Nope - where I am at is as far as I made it on my own. We had been there all morning though and I didn't spend much time trying the last section without the winch (not that it would have made much difference)

Have you ever driven it?

Haven't driven it yet-that will be a ways off though.

Since your from Wisconsin-how much rust is on the vehicle? Rusty frame?

I have only lived up here since May of '03. The 4Runner was a NC truck when I bought it. We were in NC at the time and then moved to SC in 2000. So it has only seen 2 or 3 WI winters and I took it to the car wash in the winters to get the crap off. However there is suface rust in various places, axles, springs, etc but the frame is fine. It looks worse from just sitting in my driveway this winter than it ever did when I was driving it though.

Nice 4Runner coldwiz, wish I had the cash. Seen your rig up close, I knew it wasn't a Wisconsin native (not nearly enough rust). The price is pretty decent, it would be hard to find a capable trail rig around here for that amount. Was tempted to stop and check it out once, but I'm sure the 10:30 pm visit wouldn't have been too well appreciated. Going up to the CORR races this spring near McCaslin Mt. nice trails up there. I'll spread word of a nice Sas'd 4Runner for ya, you might want to park it somewhere better veiwed than suburbia though.

Thanks Dublin - I noticed your truck last night on a post from another newbie in Appleton, Dan in WI. Your 4Runner sounds like a nice rig too and I'd like to check it out sometime. I am just starting to be a little more active trying to sell it but part of my problem was the '93 Lexus in the garage that I couldn't get rid of either. I sold it this weekend though so a little pressure is off.

I have been to McCaslin 3 or 4 times and usually had fun except when I split one of the MTRs. I think if I had a few others to go ride with up there I wouldn't be trying to sell this thing right now. So when do we ride?

coldwiz, I'm in. It would be nice to get a group of Yotatecher's to go up, seems we've gotten a few more midwest peeps here. I know a few LC folks from IH8Mud that would be up for it as well. Would like to take a better look a your rig too, I'm on that side of town often enough. This weekend I'm heading down to Wautoma to checkout some hunting land, next weekend I'm out to the yard to pick up a few yota parts. After that pick any of the remaining 48 weeks this year. PM me if ya get the urge to go.

Wow, as much as I like my Trekker, I wish I had seen this thread 2 months ago...It seems like your truck would have been worth the trip out east and have it shipped back...I am surprised no one had bought this yet...

If you found a Trekker in decent shape then you got a cool truck. Are there any pics? I would like to see it.

And you wouldn't have to my 4Runner shipped - you could drive it anywhere no problem.

It has 207,000 miles on it but runs great. I am selling it since I haven't used it on the trail since May of 2005. Not something I really want to sell but if I can get something out it then I will let it go. I will build another if things change and I can get back into wheeling. I have never had any issues with the auto tranny off road except for the linkage from the shift lever inside the cab to the tcase getting wacked. The auto has worked really well for me on the trail. I had an '88 Xtracab with a manual and while I preferred that around town, the auto has been great on the trail.

Last time I drove it more than 30 miles from home was when I drove it to Tellico. Sevierville would be no problem!
