wheels!?

So I've been looking at some black wheels for my truck not sure what to go with though. I found some MB chaos in black, xd hoss, or cragar soft 8s. I know that the xd and MB wheels will fit but not sure if the cragars will fit being that its a steel wheel I have done some looking but haven't really found the answers I'm looking for. Oh and its a 16 by 8 wheel I want to run. And what back spacing I was thinking 4 inch atleast. The reason I'm asking is because of caliper clearance! Thanks

Steel wheels shouldnt matter.

I remember reading somewhere on here that BS doesn't affect clearance of your calipers, but I could be wrong. If you want your wheels to stick out more go with 3.75 or 3.5" BS

backspacing doesnt affect caliper clearance what you have to worry about is the upper control arm by where the ball joint bolts on but with stock size tires you'll most likely be fine

Joe, I own a 97 4Runner SR5 and I just installed new wheels and tires. Since my truck came with factory 16" wheels I had caliper clearance problems when I tried to fit a set of Blackrock 942 Type "D" window 15x8 3.75 BS. I had to grind my calipers in order to get them to fit. Here is a link that have pics of my calipers after grinding them down.

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f200...uildup-231846/

Now, since you want to run 16x8, calipers will not be an issue here. As far as the backspacing goes, if you are going to run 33" tires I recommend to go with 3.75" BS. This way you will not have upper A-arm/tire rubbing issues. But I will tell you, the tires will stick out a lot more. After my experience, I can tell you this; Even dough I'm very happy how my truck looks with the new wheels/tires, If knew then what I know now, I would have definitely ordered 16x8 instead of the 15x8. That alone would have saved me a lot of work with having to grind my calipers down. Good luck and remember to post some pictures when you get your new wheels.

Traxxi, I really like the way ur runner looks with 15's. That's my kinda rig there. I just hope my tires don't stick out passed my stock fender flares. That's the only thing I don't want.

Hey Thanks!! Well Joe, I can tell you that if you decide to go with 3.75 BS on your wheels, the tires will definitely stick out pass the fender's edge. In my truck, I have 33x12.5x15 on 15x8, and my tires stick out almost 2" beyond the fender's edge. I think 4" of BS is what you will want to go with in order to minimize this. I hope that once I get fender flares installed, the flares will help to correct this. Her in California I'm risking getting a ticket because having your tires go pass the fender's edge is illegal.

well thanks again i have found a set of wheels that im going to go with they are black rock type d's they make them in a 16x7 with 4 inch back space i just hope the fit correctly because i would had to mount tires to them and not work out or look stupid. so off to jegs tomorrow to place my order on that and a few other toys lol. to bad i cant just go to the jegs wharehouse considering its right down the road from me. i hope with the 16x7 it will help with not sticking out past the fender flare. glade we dont have any crazy laws like that here in ohio there would be so many people that would be getting tickets!

Joe I got the same wheels for mine but in 15x8 with 3.75" BS. I ordered mine from Savanna Jones for $279.00 shipped. Just to let you know, When I ordered from Savanna Jones, I had to wait a month before I got my wheels delivered. I was told that this was due to the fact that Black rock wheels are generally build to order. This was my experience with this brand of wheels. At first I though 15x8 was probably the most common size of off road wheels, they should have this ready to be delivered, this was not the case. Now, this was my experience with Savanna Jones, it might not be the case with Jeggs. Now that been said, if you don't mine waiting, you will definitely be happy with these wheels. I would make sure your wheels are in stock at Jeggs before placing your order if you don't want to wait. Be sure to get a set of black lug nuts. Looking foward to see those on 16x7. Keep me posted!! Good Luck!

I almost forgot; with 16x7 / 4" BS wheels you will definitely won't have any problems with tires sticking to far. What tire size do you have in mind?

Nice looking rig. I am with you about the crome. I am in the same dillema as to what wheel to run I like the 15's and 33x10.50 (I have the tires already) I have to come up with a wheel to fit a 3rd Gen (1998) I looked at the grind job on the calipers Traxxi2003 did and it doesn't look too bad. May try that and an OME 2.5 inch lift.

Thanks man. Yeah I got some paint today just for plastic so we will see how good it works. Scuff them up spray adhesive promoter on them then paint away. Hope it comes out OK. Now I'm on the dilemma about what shocks to go with. Nothing that really ranges for 1.5 inch in the front and 2 inch in the back some I'm kinda at a stand still right now.
