What backspacing do you recommend?
I want some ideas for what might look good as far as backspacing on some aftermarket steel wheels?? I have a 1986 4runner and I am running 31'x10.50's and i would like to mount them on 15x8 steel spoke wheels!! What is a good looking backspacing on those wheels?? 3.75" or 4.25" backspacing??? I want the wheels to stick out far from the body!! any thoughts are helpfull.. thanks!

You can go total offset if you REALLY want... just keep in mind that you don't want to go too far or it will reak havoc on your wheel bearings.
Having said that, 3.75 on an 8" wheel like you're saying would be good. Stock should be a 16x7 with a backspacing of 4.5". The 3/4" may not seem like much, but add that to the extra inch of width and you're sticking out almost 2" further than stock.
I have 15x10 with 3.75" backspacing, and it's a bit much for my tastes. I may switch back to my 15x8's (Same backspacing) but really, just don't really wanna lift those heavy ass tires any more than absolutely necessary. Will probably do it whenever these tires wear out and it's replacement time. Doesn't look bad, doesn't ride bad, but they stick quite a ways out. if there is ANY moisture on the roads, forget about having the windows down, unless you want a face full of it. Forget about keeping your truck clean, ain't gonna happen. And if you go wheeling with your windows down at all, forget about keeping a clean headliner.

3.75 but the 4.25 will stick out a lot more but you may want to check your local laws to make sure they are legal and that the tire tread does not stick out to far.
