Tires: Dunlop Rover RV XT vs...
Anyone had these shoes on their ride? Looking at TireRack people seem to like them. They are new and have 1/10 the amount of people chiming in. They are rated 4th, after the Revos, Firestone Destinations and BFG A/Ts. But no one was a 4Runner owner. I know everyone here loves the Revo and the BFG A/Ts. But I can fit these on for $150 less. Any opinions are welcome.

i have the dunlop mud rovers and they suck... they never left me stuck in the mud... however they ride way too harsh... i bet the tread life would last a long time though... they arent soft at all, and mine took an insane amount of weight to balance... all 4 of tehm... one was really bad though, and needed like 10 ounces of weight!!!!

I figured most all max traction tires would be loud and ride rough. I am looking in the all-terrain category. Are there any other complaints about the Mud Rovers? The peeps on TR had them ranked pretty low too.
Did you have them balanced on a Hunter/Haweka?

no i had them balanced the regular way.. it was on a hunter balancer but was not the road force balancer.....
i got the tires used... and 2 of them were cupped pretty bad.. one of these was the one that took so much weight.... even after i wore it flat it still required way too much weight
i also have bfg muds, even bigger in size than the dunlops.... currently mounted on the same rims... and they are unbalanced (no weights at all) and still ride smoother than the dunlops ever did.... the bfgs @ 50 psi ride what the dunlops @ 30 psi did....
i have also had bfg all terrains... they were good, awesome in sand when aired down too...
my only complaint with the new bfgs is they are very soft (which can be a good thing at times) but not good for the street..... and in wet weather, they hydroplane way too easily.....

As for the RV XT's - I've got about 20k on mine (LT235/75/16) and have been pretty happy with them. I figure I can get over 30k out of them and maybe 40k if I really push it. I'd like a more aggressive tread for those 1% situations, but for a daily driver & occasional limited wheeling I'll give them thumbs up.
Do not get the Radial Rover AT's! I had them and they wore down to 4/32 in 11k miles. Thanks to the 60K warranty, Dunlop paid for most of the RV XT's.

I bought my truck with a new set of Dunlop Radial Rover RVs from the previous owner. I had no idea tires could be that bad this day and age. Thankfully, they are no longer on my truck.

My concern is the apparent Dunlop legacy of crappy wear characteristics, and the fact there is no warranty whatsoever with these RV XTs. Maybe I'll contact the Dunlop home office and see what they say. Thanks for the help y'all. Keep it comin!
