Tires for 2002 4Runner Sport with SS 1.2

Let me apologize in advance for posting another thread about tires. I'm relatively new to the forum but I've done a lot of searching and admiring peoples' rigs in an attempt to determine what brand and what size tire to put on my truck.

I've got a black 2002 4Runner Sport Edition with the Sonoran Steel 1.2 lift. My wheels and tires are currently stock. I just tracked down a set of the FJ Cruiser anthracite/gunmetal TRD wheels, and I'm looking at a few different options. First of all, I'm trying to determine whether to go 285/75/16 or 265/75/16. Any pictures of your 3rd gen trucks out there (preferably lifted) with both sizes of tires would be greatly appreciated along with your input on how you like your tire size.

Secondly, I'm trying to determine whether to go with the BFG All Terrain K/Os or the Nitto Terra Grapplers. There has been a lot of discussion in other threads regarding which tire is better, and I don't want to re-hash that argument here. I'm more interested in seeing pictures of your trucks with both of these tires in both 285/75/16 and 265/75/16. Of course I'd like to hear your feedback on how you like your tires too.

This is my daily driver and will only go offroad a few times a year. I do a lot of camping, but mostly on mild unpaved roads that don't require much 4WD.

Thanks in advance for your help and I'm looking forward to seeing what y'all come back with.

BFG's

I have not had good luck with BFG AT's on my vehicles with IFS. They quickly wear down the outside tread when on the front, even with religious rotation in my experience. I am a nut about alignment, so I keep my vehicles aligned and keep up with rotation. I've had one set on my Sequoia, two sets on my 4runner, and a set on my Jeep CJ-7. On my Jeep they show very little wear and it is always even. The Jeep has a solid front axle, but is even flat towed every summer about 2000 miles.

On both the 4Runner and Sequoia the BFG's wear unevenly on the outside of the tread when on the front only. Once they start wearing they get loud and are impossible to balance. I have replaced the Sequoia tires with Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2's. They are doing better so far, but time will tell.

Dunno what the backspacing on the FJ wheels are but if the same as the stock wheels are you willing to get wheel adapters (spacers that bolt on and to your hub and wheel)? I've got LT285/75r16 with a Sonoran steel 1.2 and 1" WabFab adapters plus pinch weld smashing and bumper valance trimming on my 96:

and LT265/75r16 on my STOCK 99 highlander, no adapters needed:

The tires I can't help you with.

FJ TRD Wheels BFG AT

Thanks for the input guys. I went with the 285/75/16 BFGs. I love the look, but the balancing for this wheel/tire combo has been a nightmare. But that's a story for another thread...

I am also looking at new tires. My Revo AT (LT265/75R16) has cupping and these are the second set of tires I've put on my 4Runner. I have a 97 4Runner with Tundra Coil, OME N91S Front, Downey 3.5 Rear Coil OME N86 Rear Shocks, Airlift bags, 1" Dif Spacers, TJM15 Front Bumper, Big Country Custom Rear Bumper, Rock Slider, winch, Hawse Fairlead. On both sets of tires, uneven wear and cupping. I was told it was over inflation. I've read it somewhere that it is the shocks-high speed "bouncing" of the tires create uneven wear. I am getting it looked at now to see if the Front UCA/LCA bushings are bad. I am also looking at changing my Front to Coilovers and Bilsteins 5150 in rear with the Downey. BFG AT looks like inherent issues, as well. I am looking at another set of Revo, but would like to see if anyone has experience with Runway Enduro HT2.

Here is what I am running. Stock 15" rims on BFG's 33x10.5. I am now looking for some 16" rims I can upgrade to when these tires wear out.

I've got the TRD Tundra lift with top plate spacer and LC 7.5 wraps out back. I went with the Falken Rocky mountains. My dad has them on his lifted jeep, and hasn't had any problems with balancing or uneven wear. I bought these last week. 285 75 16s...Got it re-aligned last week, and drove 300+ miles over the weekend to Chicago and back. Couldn't be happier with them. Little to no noise, drove nice and straight. I am going wheeling this weekend, so I can chime in on how they do after that. Plus, they are only $171 each at Discount Tire Direct...not too bad.
