Tire rotation question
Not exactly what you might expect though. I'm trying to figure out what the best course of action might be to get the most out of my Mastercraft MT's.
Right now I have 5 tires. 3 of them have 21,817 miles on them and are about four years old. 2 are on the back axle and the other is serving its time in the spare position.
The other 2 tires have 11,198 miles and are about 2 years old. They are on the front right now.
It's been about 4500 miles since last rotation, and following the same pattern would put one of the younger tires in the spare and the other on the DS rear.
I just don't know if the additional tread wear from being on the front axle will ever get the two newer tires down to the same level as the older before they (the older tires) need to be replaced, and I'd hate to have to get rid of two tires with significant tread life left, since I plan on getting different tires and maybe even a different size next time.
So, should I leave them where they are until they catch up (if they ever will), or rotate as normal in a couple thousand miles?

no they won't catch up unless you retire one of the more worn ones to the spare position
makes sense right?
More frequent rotations is the way to go. Go diagonal every 2 months for a year then go front to back every 2 months for a year and then from side to side for a year. By then it is time for new ones or just keep finding sort of used ones to keep the cycle going.
I am nursing along some Michelins like this myself kind of making them my summertime tire-and in true Colorado fashion they are Mud and Snows...
