Okay, so I'm headed off to UNC-Asheville in a few months, and I'm thinking about getting different tires with a more aggressive tread. I'm getting it serviced as I type this, and I can't recall what kind of tires I have off the top of my head, so here's what I do know; I run 2.5" of lift and I use 33" tires. I'd like to keep the 33" height, but I don't want as much road noise and I'm not sure the current tread would hold up as well in the mountains as down here in the sandhills, so I was wondering what kind of tread ya'll would suggest. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks!

If I had enough money, I'd go for them ASAP. I'll probably have some financial help from my parents, as long as it isn't ridiculously expensive. However, these cost quite a bit, so I really don't know if they'd go for it. My dad might, simply because he knows a lot more about this stuff than my mom and myself as well, but my mom would only go for it with heavvvyyy persuasion. Either way, I've made this a possibility, so, thanks!

 

get some km2s i got mine off of 4wheel parts for $650!!! (plus shipping) for 35x12.5r15 the 33s should be even cheaper!!!
They are very quiet on the road and do well in wet weather better than my firestone destination mts (31s) and they were suppose to be really good in wet weather

 

Actually, I noticed that some 33's are more expensive than 35's. Demand, I guess....

I've heard good reviews for KM2's. 255/85/16's would be a good choice, IMO. Less rolling resistance, cheaper, less chance of rubbing.

 

Okay so you want an agressive tire but not the road noise? IMO those go together.

the only ones i ever ran was the interco trxus mt's and those were not loud at all.

 

When i was looking for tires not too long ago, i was going to go with the Cooper STT's? From what i read, it was a quiet tread for a mud terrain and it handle well on the highway. Another tire i recommend is the BF Goodrich Mud terrains (the original design). My room mate has them on his rubicon and they are nice and quiet too on the street.

 

Okay, so here's an update. While the runner was getting serviced, we found out it was out of inspection (This is the part where my palm and my forehead have a rather hard meeting), and that I needed to realign my front-end. So today I'm going to this place called Thomas Tire, and my dad's going along with me and we will inquire about the BFG KM2's and possible substitutes. And he like's the KM2's, so that's a very big push in the positive direction.

 

Do you have a Costco there? They're having a $70 rebate on BFG's, IIRC.

 

The closest Costco is about 1.5-2 hours away. But we got a few walmart's near by, and one's a superwalmart and it's located in a predominantly redneck area... So I bet they have good deals on some similar tires.

 

Walmart doesn't carry them I don't think but Sam's club does. I wish you luck finding them in stock though. I just went through that ordeal.

 

Okay, so I've taken my search to eBay and I've found these. They're GT Radial Mud Truck Tires 285/75/16. All four + sales tax + shipping = $716.70

Good deal or no?

 

I didn't pay that much more for my 32's mounted and balanced with road hazard and all, with Sales Tax. IMO, not a good deal for what appears to be a no-name brand tire, that is unless you've heard of them.

Check out www.discounttiredirect.com I think they have free shipping, and if they don't have a retail store in your state, should be tax-free.

Alright, there's a fairly good deal on some 295/75/16 BFG All Terrain T/A KO. Unfortunately, it's on eBay, with 21 bids already. However, it's only at $232 with one day left and shipping would be $120. That's $352 for shipping and four tires. But of course, the price will go up, since it's ebay. As to why I'm looking on eBay, well, my dad is pretty much obsessed with it and he's a bargain hunter, soooooooo yeah. But I think we'll get these. If not, we've also got our eye on four 285/75/16 Nitto Terra Grappler A/T that we'd get for about $684 after shipping, and NC sales tax. It's not an auction though, so there's no chance of the price going up.
