Surprised I haven't seen these posted yet, but I came across these new tires from Treadwright. It sounds like they'll be a nearly exact copy of the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's. In the 285 size, they're just $90 bucks!! These look like a sweet tire for the dough. A set of these might be in my future! Here's a link and a pic from the Treadwright site...

From what I've read about the Treadwright tires in general, they're supposed to do really well as far as longevity is concerned. It does seem cheesy to post a GY pic tho!

What makes it a goodyear pic? I was under the impression you could pick any side wall you wanted that they offered(bfg, Goodyear, Michelin) , so maybe for that pic it is a Goodyear sidewall with their retreads. IDK, its a thought

Good point. I didn't think they could retread sidewalls like that, but you never know.

I usually go by the rule that cheap stuff aint good, and good stuff aint cheap. Good luck with retreads. These 4runners are sensitive to out of round or out of balance tires. I see a weekly trip to the tire shop for re-balancing in your future.

They sound great to me. I was considerind buying a set. They will use whatever tire you specify to put the cap's on. The shipping is what drives the price up with them. I went with new tires since my truck see's mostly highway miles, and catching tires on sale the money was pretty close. If what they say about the process they use is true then out of round and balance wont be an issue.

just curious do they retest them and rate them?

Like what would the temperature rating be? A B C?

do they have a treadwear rating?

Every vehicle on the market is sensitve to out of balance or out of round tires, 4runners are no exception. I have these clones and a set of Goodyear MTR's before, these balanced out better and no problems to date.

You can retread almost any good sidewall. They use a hot knife to slice the worn tread cap off, and then use vulcanizer, heat, and pressure to glue the new tread on. Same way a new tire is made (Sidewalls and tread caps have different rubber compounds to provide all a tire is expected too)

You can order any sidewall that they have in stock to re-tread. Thats why the picture has a goodyear sidewall. When I ordered my d-mud's from them I received two procomp castings and a radial rover, and a uniroyal. At the time I was unaware you could request certain castings for your re-treads. But I do have to say I really like these tires a lot. They are great off-road and my gas mileage hasn't dropped to bad. I went from 17.6 to about 16 ish. Not to bad. Hard to say because I am on the trails a lot, so I haven't had an accurate take strictly on road.

I bought 285 75 16 treadwrights and mine were BFG AT carcasses and Dunlop Mud Rover looking tread. I have put about 5k on them mostly highway and they still look and ride like new. They balanced fine no peeling or flaking. They work decent in the woods, for an 80 dollar tire at least. I haven't really aired down though. I would recommend them personally, but they are a little loud.

I recently purchased a set of the 37x12.50R15 Mud Tires from Hi-Tech Retreads (I believe Treadwright bought out this company). I was amazed at the quality and highway ride. For the worst tire of the four, it took only 2 oz to balance. I'm running this tire on a 77 F150, but am currently looking at a set of 31's for my tacoma. The only issue I faced was the heavy sidewalls of the casing they used. I fixed the stiff ride by airing down to about 15psi, but I'm guessing that with the smaller tires, you may not have this problem because of the lower load rating. As far as wheeling goes, these are not swampers, but they do what I need them to at a decent price.
