stock size tire size for stock 15x7 alloys?
hey all,
my 86 sr5 came w/ steel 15x6 steel wheels w/ 225/75r15 and the tag on my door jamb only covers the steel wheel...
what tire came stock OEM on a truck w/ the 15x7 alloy option back in 1986?
thanks

hmmm, i thought they might have come w/ a larger tire 'cause of the larger width of rim, and the upgrade?
i like your 81 trekker btw. I always like those older ones a bit better

I think that was the only tire size available up until the 31x10.50 tires that came on some trucks in the early 90's. They used the same 15x7 alloys. Although, I don;t think Toyota ever changed the door jamb sticker to match the actual tire size.

The tire/wheel package (not exclusive to the SR5, but most common) was for 235/75-15's
Essentially a 30" tire - so if you'd like to maintain a 4.10 then 235/75-15 or a 30x9.5-15 would both work well. Plus the 235/75 is a great size for pricing/availability of tires.

How about this tire! A yokohama y742s is a pizza cutter tire w/ a diameter of 29.8". I like the skinny tires for my region. They do best up here in CNY. I used to have 33" x 9.50" BFG MT on my jeep cj. They did great!
The Yokohama Y742S are the only narrow tires i can find other than the Interco 215/85r15's. The swampers are too heavy and gnarly for what i'm looking for.
Here is a link to the specs on the yokohama's: Y742S specs
So here is my question:
I have some stock 15x7 alloys that i just bought and would like to use. I could not find any 15x6 alloys. Will the Y742S be alright on the 7" rim when the max recommended rim width is 6.5"?
thanks

thanks noahrexion,
If i can get the Y742S 7.00X15 to fit on my 7" rim ok then i think that's the best of both worlds. It's a pound lighter than the Toyo Open Country AT 30x9.50 and it's a commercial rated tire w/ a long wearing compound. Plus it's narrower size aids in better fuel economy and traction where i'll be using them.
However the 235/75r15 is 5 lbs lighter in the toyo OC AT. Rotational mass is important to consider, though i think the 22re will have no problem spinning the weight of the 7.00x15 or 30x9.50 alloy rim combination.
I'll stop blabbing now, happy holiday and good new year!
