Steel wheels vs alloys?
Ok I have the SR5 alloys on the runner and like them but am concerned about catching one on a rock and breaking it. With that in mind a guy I work with has 4 of the steel wheels that Toyota used as the spare wheel from the factory. They are in great shape, no rock rash, no dents, even the paint is nice without any scratches.
So he wants to sell all 4 for 20$ and I'm thinking that I should grab them and swap out my alloys so I'm a little more confident off road. That and with the heavier steel wheels I'll have a little more unsprung weight to help keep the rubber on the rocks.
Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts??
Oh and I can probably sell the alloys for a little more than 20$ for a set and make a little cash for fuel or something.

I've only ever run alloys offroad, mostly because the truck came with them and I'm too cheap to buy new wheels. I've never broke one but they definitely get gouged when rubbing against rocks. But if I could get 4 wheels for $20 I would switch. Buy then for sure. Decent factory spare wheels run $40-50 each up here.

20 bucks? Do it! And if you end up not liking them, I bet you can get your money back....If they're the rim I'm thinking of they are kinda cool looking. There's a guy on YT that is running them.

I would take steel wheels over alloys any day, if you break an alloy wheel your screwed, but if you bend a steel wheel there is a good chance you can pound it straight, air it back up and keep going.
