So i got new Wheels - Brand new Rock Crawler 15x10 on craigslist. ($150 for 5 which I thought was a steal)
I'm gonna put 33" tires on them but am unsure as to the width restrictions I am facing. Can I put a 12.5 on a 10" Wheel?.. If not what is the widest I can get on there?

you'll be fine with a 10" rim. i think thats what is recommended anyways. i ran an 8" wide rim with 12.5" wide tires and they were fine too

 

You can run just about any tire on any rim as long as the tire is wider then the rim.

There is alot of info about this in the "tire and wheel" area on here. Go take a look if you want more info.

 

I've read that typically you want to stay within 4.5" of tire-rim ratio, ie, no more than a 10.5" wide tire on a 6" rim, etc.

 

*laugh* The tire being wider than the rim doesn't even matter, crazy lowriders.


OP. You'll do just fine with 10" wheels and a 12.5" tire.

 

If you can find one, I'd like you to post the specs of a tire that they recommend mounting on a rim that's wider than the tire.

Never mentioned anything about recommended. Most lowriders and bombs around here run 155/80/13's (6.1" wide) on a 13x7 rim (7" wide).

I run a 12.5 tire on an 8in rim so you'll be just fine withe the 10in rims.

it actually looks pretty cool...
its a way of getting away with a wider rim to fill the wheel well without having to pay mondo cash for a new set of tires...

 

well, those low-pro tires aren't cheap either...
and if you run out of gas, you can wind some string around the rims and pull from the driver's seat to get the car down the road instead of getting out and pushing.

 

I wouldn't run anything less then a 12.5" tire on a 10" rim to completely avoid the look posted in the pics above... A tire needs to be sucked in a little to look right. I hate it when the sidewalls are less than flat.

 

Just because people do it, it doesn't make it's right (or safe). Manufacturer recommendation for tires that size would be to mount it on rims between 4" and 5" wide.
