MT vs. AT

If you use your rig for daily driver duties or drive it on pavement a lot, why not just get the A/T's? Like already stated, with a locker and what not you can get pretty far and with a DD I would be guessing that you are not going to be doing any crazy trails where you need mudders anyway.

I got some firestone destination A/Ts which i got brand new from a guy at work for a good price they seem real decent i have had them for 1.5 months already and no noise on the highway and well im new to this off roading thing but i got my tacoma for work.
Had a bad snow storm in january and everything got muddy well my trusty taco and its A/Ts did really well in the mud as well as the snow didnt get stuck and i hardly had to put it in 4x4 even when going up a steap slope.
I have also been going up some 3 to 1 hills (not sure if anyone knows what that is) without a problem.

Well, went to this site....

...and I really like the look of the GY Wrangle Duratracs, and the cost isn't bad. With the rebates, they are actually cheaper than the BFG A/T's. Shipping isn't too bad either, less than $720 total for tires and shipping.
These will probably be what I get, and I will keep you posted on how they perform.

Good choice. I have the 285/E-rated DTs on my Cruiser - after about 27k they have only worn 4/32 and still have 14 left to go...try to get that out of an MT! I think I paid like $1k with tread warranty from a GY shop. Tire does pretty good in all conditions. Much better in the rain than BFG ATs - and not everyone and their brother has them.

i went with MT b/c i knew that if i would have gotten AT, i would regret it. AT might ride better, be less noisy, and weigh less, but i still prefer the look of MT. i get maximum traction on my off-roading trips which is important to me. i DD my truck and honestly, the MT handle just fine on wet and drive conditions.
btw, i have maxxis buckshot mudders. great bang for the buck tires.

I drive about 99percent on the highway. I travel the country for my work, and I have approx 30K miles on my 33x10.50x15s. BFG KM2 mud terrains. It's a quiet tire, and wears great on the light Toyotas. I hear wind noise and engine much more than I hear the slight hum from the tire even at 80mph. I will get bigger tires later this year, and I may look into the Toyo Open Country MT if I can't get KM2s again when I want them. My total cost from Discount Tire was about $1100, with full road hazard, mount/balance. I hate Discount tire now, but the KM2s are a great tire. I still have 3/4(easy)tread life left.

For most street driving..and some trail: BFG A/T
For majority street driving, but a little more trail: Duratracs
For a mixture of both: KM2s
I ran BFG ATs on my old jeep, loved em..even decent on the rocks..
I run 35" KM2s on the yota...kinda howl but oh well, its a MT. ALso ran a 31" km2 on my very first jeep..awesome offroad and decent tread life for a M/T
