Increase in tire cost?

Been searching for a new set of shoes for my 4runner. I have nitto terra grapplers on there now that ive had for almost 50k and they have been a good tire but will need changing before winter. I can't believe the cost of tires since the last time a purchased. I am pretty set on some 255 85r/16's and looked at the BFG KM2 and the Maxxis Bighorns that everyone said were so inexpensive. Les Schwab wants almost $1200 out the door for the Maxxis and Discount wants $1,000 for the KM2's.

Does this pricing seem standard Today?

I'd say that sounds about right. You only got 50k out of your last set? Is there any reason you need a mud tire vs getting an all terrain tire? My dad had some BFG all terrain's on his Chevy 2500HD that lasted 80k miles and still had good tread left.
I bought tires for my DD several months ago just small street tires (28 in) and it set me back 800.

Yeah, those prices are about average. And as stated above, the BFG AT's are pretty awesome. The last set I had rode to 100k miles or there about before I changed them out.

Of note, rubber is a petroleum product, so you can fairly well anticipate the prices of tires will increase in the summer, and decrease in the winter; just like gasoline. If you can hold out for a few more months to buy tires, you'll normally be able to save a little.

gotta pay to play! all tires are expensive these days because of oil prices - i just spend $400 on cheap Falkens for my corolla and they were the cheapest non-chinese tires i could find after looking for a month...from a small ind. tire shop too! 10yrs ago they would probably only be $200 installed!

I sold a dude a set of michelin a/t 2 for what i believe was around 820 out the door, shop around, michelin frequently has 70 dollars off on a set of 4. I always check tire shops before your mom and pops
