Discount Tire Certificate/Warranty
What do you think? They sold me on their certificate whereby they will replace an unrepairable tire for free instead of basing the value per the usual proration method. Is that worth $22 per tire? Times 5? Now that I'm at home thinking about it, in my previous experiences with other dealers these guys try very hard to do repairs and not replacements. I'm debating if I should go back there tomorrow shake them down for my $110 back.

its the same as america's tire company... i used t owork there.. anywyas, i would get their plan, its worth it to not have t oworry about it... also.. lets say you get teh protection plan, i would only get it on 4 of the tires, you never will need it on the spare... anyways..... its what $110 extra right? im sure a new tire would cost mroe than that.. i also worked at wheel works.. and can say of the 2, ATC is a much better company, sure they will wnat to fix your tire so they dont lose $, but with ATC is a private company owned by one guy and he doesnt want hte liability, if the techs feel it might be unsafe, they will replace it.... when i was at wheelworks, its owned by firestone, and we would fix things that ATC told me not to touch with a 10 foot stick..... just a little fyi from the inside of the industry

you nkow what, working in the industry, i saw thousands of tires be brought in for road hazard warranties.... in a month we averaged about 50 customers that got free tires due to the insurance.... so most people think oh it will never happen to me, but in reality it does happen, quite frequently, and peopel that dont see it everyday would never guess it either....

I have been happy with them, and I think the insurance will be good if you offroad a lot on rocks and stuff. The fixed my flat after I popped a bead no issues, rotate and balance every 5k miles. The only issue I have had was this week when they broke a wheel stud, while rotating and balancing. They paid for it to get fixed so no issues.
I got the insurance on my Revos, no issues yet. But you know how it goes. If you dont have a spare you get a flat. If you have a spare you can drive througha pile of nails and not have an issue.
If I get MT/Rs I might reconsider getting the insurance who knows.

I've used the warranty a couple times and it's worth it I think.

just be informed befroe making your decision, there are peopel here that say oh it will never happen to me, becasue these tires are far superior, the fact is that its rubber... and until we all have runflat tires with a central inflation system like a hummer, or decide to make tires out of solid rubber and not use air inside, you are still susceptible to road hazards..... i have had a quite a few sets of bfgs, and have gotten flats, this doenst mean the bfgs arent tough, it means i drove over something harder than the rubber my tire was made out of... i have also personally had flats in other vehicles with other than bfg's...

when i got mine, i think it was like $5 a tire for their warranty, so i mean, can't go wrong there.. $20 to protect against all blow outs.. this was from canadian tire though.
as for $110.. i dunno, kinda pricey.. but it's still less then the cost of one tire, right?

I'm on that fence right now...
Have to choose to keep my $100 and gamble or have peace of mind...probably going to keep my $100, figure I will out $170 if I tear one up...
If I get a nail or other "street hazard" they will still repair or prorate the tread...

Just ask 2001Millrunner what happened last year a Mt Gardner. he he
He bought the warranty. They swapped it without question.

if its repairable.... and if you dotn have the road hazard, they wil automatically try to sell you a new one... there are sooo many tricks in the trade, that the general public doenst know about.... did you know its actually legal and safe to fix a tire on the sidewall up to about an inch of the bead? will a shop do it? hell no they wont, too much liability should it fail...... and if a shop refuses to fix it, you are stuck buying a new one, shops know how to get to people, thats part of what they do.....
personally knowing the industry and what bastards they can be, its cheap insurance, then i dont have to worry about it... what if you blow 2 tires because some jerk with nothing better to do slashed yuor tires? then that is a $400 hit when $100 would have saved your but t obegin with

just to recall a point, i remember one time where within 3 days we sold about 40 tires, becasue 20 differnt cars came in on towtrucks with 2 slashed tires... in talking to the owners, they were parked @ the mall on a sunday, and it turns out someone went around and slashed everyones tires....

I tore a sidewall racing my Eclipse around a roadcourse when I had a brief and incidental off road adventure and threw the donut on and went straight to Discount and got a new tire within 20 minutes no questions asked. Buy 'em for the peace of mind plus with off roading (if you do that) a torn sidewall could be a more common issue.

I've always had good experiences with Discount. I've had several flats from punctures across the tread and they plugged them, but the replacement plan is worth it if you cut a tire. I probably would have skipped the spare though.
My friend purchased tires for his corvette from them and when he punctured one he had to convince them that plugging it would be unsafe for the driving he was doing on the track. He had to talk to a manager and it took a little extra time, but ultimately they replaced the tire without much fuss.
