BFG a/t for mostly street rig?

91 x-cab, 4x4, 3.0. It has Michelin x radial LT's on it now, no complaints but after 80,000 miles they are getting pretty low. This rig is driven on road/highway most of the time with a little dirt/snow driving every now and then. I picked up 2 new BFG A/T's off CL, I'm trying to decide if I should buy two more or sell these and get something less aggressive. I'm mostly concerned with road noise and gas mileage. I know these are highly regarded off road tires, but how about on road handling/noise/mileage?

BFG A/T's are NOT highly rated offroad tires. There's a reason their nickname is "Mall Terrains."

However, if I didn't wheel much, or wheel anything hardcore those are what I'd most likely be running. I had a set in the 31" flavor and I liked them.

My overgeared 3.0 5speed gets about 16-17MPG on them on the highway. I have little issue in the rain with these tires and this winter they gripped fantastically on the ice and compacted down snow we ran into a few weeks back. They make little noise and handle well. I'd pick them up if your into light wheeling/mostly road driving.

I like mine thus far, wheeled them quite a bit. Took them to Evans Creek twice, Reiters pit once, and been out in the snow and mud in a few other places. They never really let me down, but if you start wheeling more you will wish you had something with more bite! I found them fairly decent however for what i encountered on the trails.

^ is true. Elton doesnt like them as he cant drive in the rain properly and swears they are his reasoning for loosing traction in it

My current kit gets 16-17 city and up to 21 highway, but I don't think the tires would make that much difference. 31's, 4.56's and a 5sp. how much are you over-geared?

I had some on 30x9.5 a couple years ago. I loved them. Would love to get a set on the DD.

Thanks for the replies. I guess since I was able to pick up two for $50(with 4 wheels) I'll just get two more and call it a day. Anyone need wheels?

I highly recommend this tire.

Mall rated? Please.

French creek, in the rain. I used to run this tire, ran it for nine years in various sizes. IMO, there is no better tire for mostly on road trucks that see wheeling on the weekends.

I switched to mud terrains for even more traction, but the truck see's less road time now.

you cant argue with a proven track record of BFG a/t. any all all terrain tire will struggle with some situations off roading but thats expected.

until now BFG A/T's have always been my first chioce.... I mean what, you think all the "other" wheelers out there have them because they are no good? Cause they sure are not the cheapest tire. you wont find a better longer lasting AT.
Now I just tired the new BFG KM2 ....noticed much less wheelspin offroad... they are just a tiny bit louder than the KO's though, but compared to the M/T they are silent.
YES GO BFG!

mostly street, look at the BFG Rugged Trail T/A.... good mild wheeler but quiet and handles on road.

No kidding. I've seen lots and lots of BFG AT's off the beaten path.

Nearly bald BFG All Terrains got me and my buddy out of this mud hole in his stock 4runner:

I run a set of 315/70 17's on my pickup, and have no complaints.I daily drive it on the week days, and wheel it on the weekends.

Perfect tire for what you're looking for.

I've had my 32" ATs since 2004 and put on about 25,000 miles - pretty much all street - they look almost new and I haven't had any emergency issues on the road with them - I'd buy again.

They are my street tire 35x12.50x15, and they are sooo smooth I dont even know they are there. My offroad set it some 35x15.50 TSL SX'S and they will rattle and shake the paint off your rig, I thought my headlight went out so I pop the hood to replace it and it turns out the tires managed to shake the bulb right out of its socket. I wonder what's going to come off next, then I put the daily drivers on and it's like riding on clouds.

i had a set of 31x10.5 for a while. they got me all over the place on and off road. i like my km2s now much better, but if i was going for another A/T, id get em in a 33x10.5 and get em siped for the wet road traction. not a bad tire at all IMHO
