Best Mud Tire for winter?

I am looking to get some new meats for my 4runner in time for winter/ snow (33's). I am looking for a good MT that is decent to good in snow/ ice as I will be driving up northern BC, Alberta for hunting and xmas. I have read all kinds of reviews online but wondering what tires you guys like for winters and all around wheelin. I am not looking for a full winter/ snow tire, just a MT that preforms well in the snow, rain and muddy trails etc..

I have used BFG MT KM's and they are decent for wheeling and good in deep snow, but not so good on hard pack snow/ ice.

Currently have MTR's and they did surprisingly well last winter, considering they have no siping. They sound like Boggers now as they wear down.

I am thinking of either the Trxus MT's, Cooper STT or Toyo MT's. A freind has the Trxus MT's and they are amazing in the snow and ice, nearly as good as full winters/ snow tires. They are also great for all around wheeling, but are on the soft side and dont last too long and tend to chunk a bit on rocks. I havent heard any personal reviews on the Coopers STT or the Toyos in the snow.

Any opinions?

It's all terrain, but they are killer.

The Cooper Discoverer STTs absolutely rock in the snow. The Trxus M/Ts are amazing, but $$$!. The Toyo's look and perform awesome, but they're pricey too (I do like that they have a 285/70R16 size though (32x11) - perfect if you have a 2-3" lift and don't have gears). Overall for $800 (4), the STTs are tough to beat. I'm getting some in 285/75R16 this winter for my rig.

My Mastercraft M/Ts look cool, but suck in snow and they're ok offroad. No siping, loud as hell on the hwy, and they shake like crazy as they wear down - even though they've been re-balanced twice.

I've got Mud Kings and have put about 20k miles on them (not a lot of snow) and they have held up pretty well. The reason I mention these tires is because they accept studs on the edge of the tread pattern. I imagine there is no better way short of chains to get performance in the snow... after all, the rally racers use studs when racing in the snow, usually packed snow.

Studs dont help in snow...only ice

I think I have narrowed it down to the Cooper STT and Trxus Mt's, just looking for some more first hand reviews. I will be going with 285/75/16's.

My Cooper STT's were awesome in the snow. They balanced nicely too, and stayed balanced. Mine weren't very noisy either. They wore a little quicker than I would have liked, but that was the only downfall.

treadwrights offer a tire that has the crushed walnut in it. I used the 33x12.5 on my XJ and they were awesome(for a mud tire) on the snow and ice. And they are cheap!

i'm currently using STTs in 265/75/16 and they work very well in snow, ...most mud, and just about every other condition but they're not too great on ice. but then again, which ones are? Mstrkage has got the right idea with the crushed walnut tires. those work amazingly well at increasing traction.
as for 285/75 i couldn't tell you if it'd be better than an equally tall and narrow tire(maybe 255/85s?) for winter performance, which is what i've also heard works very well in tricky conditions.

I would second the STTs - lots of people ran those up in new hampshire where I used to live. Good MTR in the snow.

firestone destination m/t is excellent in the snow and rain

it does better in rain than my 35" super swamper. Its pretty close what my super swamper does in snow.

miss my old tires! wish they offer in 35".
