Backspace help on cragar rims.

I ended up getting the wrong bs for my 16x7 cragar soft 8's they are 4 BS. The guy at american tire explained it to me but was quite confusing he said I needed negative backspacing or something? I'm running 255/85/r16 km2's and I'm wondering wht backspacing I really need and if cragar even makes the proper backspacing for a 16 inch rim on my 98 4 runner (my brake calipers were rubbing on the 16x7's with 4 bs) . I appreciate the help.

See now that confuses me I thought you want more positive backspacing. What backspacing should you have in reality? Problem I'm having is my brake calipers n rubbing but I don't wanna end up grinding to far then ruining them and still having useless rims. Is grinding the calipers common?

Will the rim mount and just not move cause it hits the caliper?

Does the tire hit the Upper A arm?

Wheel spacers will fix it but I'm thinking so would a grinder.

Take pics.

backspacing is the distance between where the wheel is bolted on to the car and the edge of the rim, if that makes any sense. less backspacing will stick the tire out farther and push it away from the calipers. quick google search and this came up- if you want to measure the minimum distance you need. https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

For some reason the guys at american tire said wheel spacers would not work? Like I said I know very little about wheels so I just took their word for it. The rim fits and will move I guess it just rubs ever so slightly.

Rubs on what? The rim on the caliper? The tire on the A arm?

Wheel spacers will fix both. I'll bet grinding the caliper would fix it.

Most tire places sell rims and tires off charts and computers and otherwise know squat on specific vehicles.

Rubs on the caliper. American tire rotates my tires for free but they said once you put on wheel spacers they won't service my tires anymore. Can I get spacers from kragen or pepboys? Also is there a con to running a spacer? I'm just concerned about hitting the brake fluid reservoir and having to buy new calipers.

The rim will actually spin on the hub but like I said ever so slightly rubs on the caliper.

Grind it. Save yourself wasted money and headaches. You won't have to take off more than 1/16" to 1/8".

Take some pics already of where it is rubbing.

I'll take some pics in a bit just trying to decide what to do first. What area is the brake fluid reservoir in? Should I just use a mikita to grind?

Either grind the caliper or buy a small 1/4" wheel spacer. This is nothing new and has probably been covered before.
FYI though, some wheels, regardless of backspacing, won't fit just because of the shape of the wheel.
Do some more research next time.

Just figured since a lot of people here were running cragars on 3rd gens. I'm thinking about grinding. Can you get wheel spacers at pepboys? Also how much do they usually run?

Any idea if local shops like pep boys or kragen sell wheel spacers? Around how much do they run?

Why are you afraid to grind down your caliper? It's not very hard to do.

Have you tried using your Yellow pages and your Phone and CALLING your local stores???

you can get a grinder cheaper than wheel spacers, and just grind, test fit, grind a little, fit again. What you show is about 30 seconds of work with a 60 grit wheel

Edit: while you are at it fix that broken wheel stud
