No, Keep your runner.
Try sleeping in a single cab, Then take a nap in a 4runner and tell me which you like better
Sometimes makes me wish I had a 4Runner.
But then again less sheet metal is a good thing in my case

Thanks for the complements man. Cant wait to see yours done up

You could do a spacer lift, Daystar makes a 2.5" for about $160 (front and rear). Most BLs are over $100 anyways, so I would do this If I were you. You may need some 1/4" wheel spacers in the front ($20 - $30) so the 285s don't rub on the upper A-arms. If you get better suspension later, you can still sell the spacer lift and get some $$ back.

BTW, 255/85R16s are taller than 285/75R16s by about .5". But the 285s are about 1 - 1.25" wider than the 255s.

285/75R16 = 32.8 x 11.2 (give or take .25" depending on the manufacturer)
255/85R16 = 33.4 x 10.1

The taller, skinnier 255s seem to actually rub less than the 285s w/ small lifts because most of the rubbing occurs when turning and the extra clearance widthwise helps a lot. Either of these tires will fit fine w/ 2.5 - 3" of lift and no rubbing if you trim a little. I think the 255s would be better w/ 1 - 2" of lift.

Fender trimming/hammering is easy. Just look for protruding areas in the wheel well and hammer them flat. Trim the plastic skirt where it sticks out.

I like what brian is saying, only I would go with the Toytec 3" lift. It's their best seller, and for a good reason! It's fairly inexpensive, and great BANG for YOUR BUCK! I'd shop around for the tires, and then spend the extra cash you save on getting the ToyTec lift! I'm told that the Daystar spacer lift is kinda crumby, and you're still going to need a diff drop in there!

For around $400, you get rear coils, front spacers, and diff drop, and that's delivered! You can buildup the suspension from there at a later date! I put 33's on my 98 with that setup, and only had to trip the lower valance on my front bumper, and remove the front mudflaps!

Trust me on this, spend the extra $100 or so, and you won't have to do it again!

Good luck with the build, and show us some before and after pics when you're done!

yeah I do love sleeping in my runner, well I know about lifts and I know what I'm going to get, before I had 883's with billsteins and lexus coils with ome soft rides extended steel braded brake line and panhard bar adjust bracket and some cragar soft 8's but I had to sell it all due to a financial situation. TheCoils are not that expensive but ill still need to get shocks and that's what's killing me.if a 255 is taller why is everyone a 285? I thought my dads 255 looked big I thought I was just crazy. honestly man, I had no clue about the 255's when I bought my tires so I bought 285's. I would go that cheap set up, and my old wheel spacers 1/4 cost me six bucks at pep boys. i agree bald tires during hunting season suck. I haven't lifted the rear of my truck yet, so I have the sag. I haven't wheeled it too hard, but I don't rub. unless i hit a bump, or flex too much. it will get me out there.. so you could just get away with the front.

just about the cheapest on cooper st's

Yeah I'm really trying to come up with the money for the lift first but I don't know how possible that is right now. I might try and get away with a BL for now I'm just waiting on more suggestions maybe see if nanyone else has done it or something. I didn't think it would be so bad as I want to run a 10.5 not some super wide bogger.

Once again, 255 IS NOT the Diameter of the tire. it's the width in milimeters.

Ok so the 65/75 is the height ratio compared to width then what would be a 33,10.5 wide?

65/75 is the sidewall height, convert that to MM's then add the rim diameter and there you have it. someone posted a calculator somewhere in this thread, look for it..

I do enjoy seeing Americans trying to use the metric system. I guess a system that is designed to make things more simple only works if you know how to use it. Up here in Canada we get to use both.

I work in a industrial hardware/farming store with 3 fab shops most metric I deal with is bolts haha. That would be cool scuba thanks. I think im going to get the 33 10.5's and do some trimming and maybe get a BL for now I plan on running the same setup I had before LC/Lexus coils with and OME 881's instead of 883's as I have no bumper right now and some good shocks. Ill be getting sliders for some protection along with a BL next pay day im going to go with 4xinnovations.

Alright screw the pm.

Here is the one I always use.
http://www.redrock4x4.com/tech/tire_...ethod=standard

Its easy.

4Xinnovations sliders rock !!

Although, Allpro is soooo much closer to you than them.
Just saying if your strapped for cash that bit of savings on shipping costs might help.

I really could make em out of work for cheaper probably haha but I am super strapped for time as well between work school and hunting and competitive shooting. I am selling some of my subs and a amplifier to see If I can get some money to fund the lift before hopefully someone bites. The Allpros are bada$$ but 270 the 4x are 220 I believe wonder how much the shipping will be.

im in the same situation as you i am just waiting to buy my lift also and for now until i get the lift, im not gonna be wheeling much. i have taken it up a few times and the rubbing i did have did no damage, i was flexing pretty hard to. oh and when i put the tires on without any cutting it rubbed really bad i couldnt even leave the driveway.

to trim fenders you use.
a dead blow, sawzall and an angle grinder with cut off wheel.

rubbing causes "cupping" on the tire decreases the life of the tire as well possible causing uneven wear which puts stress on other components of your suspension and can lead to shaking and alignment issues.
^worst case scenario....
do i think this will happen? no......can it happen yes,
i have always run tires bigger than what lez schwab(sic) and others have said too with only minor rubbing which caused no adverse effects, i'd say go for it just don't wheel it to hard till you get the lift. the stuff above is all of the things i was told would happen by the guys at lez's if i put the bigger tires on my jeep, they were wrong.

33x10.5's are 15in. wheel, and the 255's are the 16 in. wheel. and rear of my truck is stock and i'm running 285's. I DD my truck, haven't gotten to wheel it much, sure if i flexed it I would rub.
