1s gen tire and wheel help
Ok,
I am looking to replace my tires. Right now I have a 81 with the OE 15s. I have been looking at 31x10.50 from treadright, the guarddogs.
I have a set of tundra rims( stock), 16s with a set of 245,7516s mts. I got the tires for free, rims for 50bucks.
Here is the issue,
New 31s about 450-500$
The 16s I would need 1.5in wheel spacers almost 2bills,(I cant find them used) + mounting about 60 or so.

So yea what do you guys think. I am trying to go low budget.

I'd say stay with the 15R's. Tires are generally cheaper for 15r than 16r (more expencive for less rubber? Wierd, but true) and you don't have to worry about wheel spacers. What's wrong with your stock rims? I ran 31's on my stock rims just fine, just gave them a sanding and painted them black.

Spacers make me very nervous--there's just so much more risk of losing a wheel. I would really try to avoid them.
That is a nice set of 16" wheels and tires. I bet you could sell them or trade to get a set of 31x10.50s for your stock wheels. I find the stock wheels to look so much better on early trucks than more modern wheels--that just looks mismatched to me.
I have 31x10.50s on my stock 15x6s. 31s are usually plentiful on Craigslist.

I've been running spacers(1.5") on the front of my '84 and they've never let loose. Never even been loose. And they've been on for more than 45K miles.
Don't let using spacers alter your decision, OP.
And Wabfab has spacers for about $90 bux/pair. Where are you looking that has spacers for 2bills?

Thanks for the replys, I was thinking lighter weight with the tundra rims, plus I bought them for my 88 which I sold.
I was planning on painting the rims black anyway.
I still have to get a new tierod before I throw new shoes on her.

yea I guess your right, I thought they were AL but could be wrong.
Ok, so weight saving is not really on the table then.
Yea the easy way to got is to sell rims and tires and just get some 31s used if I can find them. If not tred wrights.

I've got a 79' with 3" extended shackles. I'm running 2007 fj cruiser wheels with 305/70/17 with 1.5" inch spacers on all four corners. I found the spacers, all 4, new on eBay, shipped for $120. I would run the tundra wheels until the rubber is gone
