Bought a pop up camper
#1
So I picked up an older pop up camper the other day, a 94 model. Purchased from a co-workers dad, who hadn't used it in over 3 yrs. Everything looked well kept, except for the grime on it from sitting outside untouched for the past few years. It's a Jayco with a 12 foot box with a queen bed on one end and a king on the other. Took it home and everything was looking good until I realized the roof was sagging some and the end of the roof was rotten. I replaced some wood on the endcap of the roof and determined that the two sides of the roof and ceiling must have all been assembled as one piece and then placed onto the trailer. This left me stuck as far as trying to strengthen the ceiling/roof of the camper, as I couldn't access the wood within the ceiling. Enter 1X1 square tubing
. I ended up getting the tubing, cutting it the length of the camper, putting a bow in it, and mounted it to exiting L brackets on either end of the ceiling. Looks like it going to work out. I recaulked all the seams on the camper and replaced some water connections. AC blows COLD!!!!! which I am very happy about. It has the 12V/110V/propane mini fridge, which works as far as the 110 goes. I haven't check the propane operation yet. The 3 burner stove works and is removable for oudoor use. We're taking it on its maden voyage tomorrow to rickwood caverns state park and hope that everything goes well! I'll post a cpl pics when we get back and show off my steel tubing re-enforced roof.

Looking forward to some pics.
I had a Flagstaff which was made by the same Amish crews that worked for Jayco.
Mine was an '89, but I bet yours is similar in design.
I could take my stove and mount it outside too.

Yep, looks about the same. Mine sits lower on 10 inch rims. I'm gonna have to pull it to FL and let my brother fab a lift for it so I can run some chromed out 12's on it
I can barely get it in the driveway w/o dragging frame.

You could always spring for ones of these. You could run 33's on your trailer, sick!

You have a nice camper, you can try lifting it by adding blocks where the spring hangers meet the frame for 2" or so max, run taller tires, which equals less rotations for the wheel bearings (ie, longer wheel bearing life & cooler temps.) Otherwise just make sure you don't hit a holding tank or propane tank & get your scrape on.
Skid plates for the back of a trailer perhaps??

I haven't looked at the suspension to closely yet to see what it'll take to lift it. It has some kind of a torsion spring set up, so I'll have to check it out. We just returned today, after leaving Monday at noon for Rickwood Caverns State Park. Everything went, except I still have a leak somewhere on the roof. I believe it's seeping around the AC unit. We froze the AC up last night, I guess from running to wide open for about 24hrs. Took about 10 mins to defrost and we were back to living the high life. The trip was a success, although the 01 4Runner was a little more sluggish than I expected. I guess it didn't help that we were traveling north, since we were going up in elevation a bit. Seemed much better on the way home. The Cavern tour was AWESOME and a good little workout as well. Looking forward to hitting up another State Park, hopefully within the next 6 weeks. We may be heading to south Alabama or north Florida to meet some family halfway to drop my younger Bro off. SO, if anybody knows of a good spot near the AL/FL line along I-10, let me know.

here's one pic of my steel tube I added. I think I may have to adjust it a bit, as it seems to press down on the foam mattresses pretty hard when you seal up the camper

Here's the link to a few pics of our first trip in the camper. We'll be going out for another weekend coming up. We're going to have a few friends with us this time, so we'll see how cramped it gets. http://s584.photobucket.com/albums/s...odfl/pop%20up/

Yeah, the wife said no more tent camping during pregnancy after we went in Apr. I knew I always wanted a camper and afer our 1st trip I can say I'll never not have a camper of some sort. I love having the 4Runner, it turns me on to look out in my driveway and see the Taco and the Runner
Older pop ups can be yours for 1k -2K. We seen a family with 4 kids camping in a pop up with an 8 foot box on our last trip. I wondered how they did it.
