So here we go again. When this build started, I, frothing at the mouth, pretty much jumped at the first EFI control system I saw and it didn't take long to see that the one I chose was the wrong one. The truck ran fine but not quite what I was expecting. The truck is back in the barn for a transplant, this time with the -411 ecm that it needed from the start, flashed to spec.

Of course engine and dash removal required

it's also a good time to address the drag link/tie rod bind by relocating and rotating the box

So glad to see the build thread again. Its funny you mentioned jumping at the first ECU. When I do my LSx swap own my T4R I plain on using MSD Atomic wiredless EFI for an LS1. It just looks so clean.

Yeah, that would clean things up measurably. When does this project begin?

Not for awhile. I've had the truck for about 6 months now the P.O. was a steamy pile of a human. I've rebuilt the ifs in the front. Fixed the cooling system before the 3vze did the 3vze thing *headgaskets* and just recently had to rewire the injector harness.

Uh, yeah, you don't have to rub it in! (j/k) You know what they say, precision takes time, so does a full time job and family. I don't know if there really is an end except when I sell the truck. Keep reading...

I thought I'd do a conditional inspection while I had the engine out. The bearings looked pretty good, the inside was clean but found one small issue

Other than that, it looked fine.

#MorePiston lol Seriously though is that damage enough to warrant boring it to restore a perfect cylinder wall ?

I have to see if the liner can be replaced or if the block is junk.

Wow, you made quick work of tearing her back down! All that wiring would intimidate me, lol. I hope the block checks out and is still good. Look forward to seeing your progress!

The crack is hard to see in the pics but its there and all the way through the sleeve wall. It extends about 1/2in. down. I talked to a local machine shop about it and he said the sleeve (difference between a sleeve and liner is that liners are generally wet) can be removed and replaced, so I may have dodged a bullet there.

Subscribed! I'm working on final engine placement and wiring harness right now. Glad to see this thread is active again and that you're going with a stock ecu. I'm using it as well. Running a 4l60e/208 and trying to decide between 5.3 and 6.0. Both are in the garage. With the 6.0 I'll need hp tuners,5.3 I won't need hpt until heads/cam. I still have a long way to go, need to make a build thread. Anyways, awesome work! I'll be watching and likely asking questions along the way

Thanks, Rooster. I hope you'll start that thread as there's something to learn from everyone who does this swap. Are you using the stock harness?

Ya, Ed. The shop is building up another short block that should be done this week. I'm ready to be done with this as my level of confidence isn't high.

Finally going back together. Wasn't planning on a total bottom end but guess I'll take it. The shop wound up doing right by me after their little boo-boo on the bench.
