Cool 95 Runner getting a 5.0 HO

I picked up a 95 4runner with a dead 3sl0 in it. So after hours of reading threads on here and other places I decided to swap it for a five oh. I know it's been done before but figured it's my turn. I am going to use it to pull my boat and light trail use, hoping to do it without a body lift and retain the a/c, cruise and factory gauges with some after market temp and oil pressure gauges to keep a better eye on it I picked up a 5.0 HO out of a 90 Lincoln complete with AOD, ecu and harness for $500 This is going to be a project for my son and I (mostly me but also to get him off the d@^^n X-box)

Here is a pic of the runner as it sits stock

any bits of wisdom you want to share feel free to post them up

if your going with a v8 do a sas at the same time with a d44 and 9inch it will handle the torque better to save money make your own motor mounts. which tranny do you have but look at advanced adaptors for the adaptors you'll need and summit racing for the fittings and fuel lines for that part of the swap don't know which state your in but if your in ca than you'll need the egr, vss, and all the smog equipment from the 5.0 to have it pass the ref

I plan on keeping the IFS for now, i live in northeast oregon so smog is not a problem yet and i'm currently serching c/l and local wrecking yards for a t-case so i can order the AA adapter. I do have one question tho and pardon me if it has been asked before but i searched and couldnt find the answer, or maybe I did and it didnt register, there is so much info to take in on doing an engine swap. So here it goes, the runner currently has an auto tranny in it and mated t-case (hence the looking for a new t-case) but do the speedo outputs on toyota t-cases share the same cable, or will i need to find a cable for the new t-case

Thanks in advance

Brian

Should be the same cable for either t-case.

Hope this works out for you, it will be an awesome swap if it does!
Do everything you can to get your kid away from that video crap. I wasted years of my life on that crap. One of my few regrets. Props on being a good father

ok so after a few weeks of searching and the motor/tranny deal fell through im having trouble finding the answers that im looking for. AA's web site says that the AOD to toyota tc adapter works on 88 or newer aod's, but all my research turns up that most all aod's were the same from 80-92ish depending on vehicle. The aode was brought in around 93and only ran for a few years till the 4r70w came out and runs till 08 but all those were on modular motors. I e-mail'd AA and they were no help, (just repeating what the web site says). So im looking for someone that has first hand exp. on doing an aod in their rig to the toyota tc. To be exact i want to know will an 87 cougar xr7 5.0 with an aod work with AA's adpter? I picked up the whole car for $400 so i'm not out much if it wont work although i wish i could find a mass air engined car but they seem to be few and far between or people think they are gold. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Brian

Finally an update worth posting! I gave up on the cougar engine and found a 92 thunder chicken in portland it has a 5.0 HO mass air gave a bit to much for it but i was getting impatient and wanted to get rolling on this project. I wasn't going to lift it but i picked up a used trailmaster front lift and I used old man emu 80 series rear springs full lift cost me $300.

some pics of the lift and the thunder chicken

Nice, pretty much same as I have done, except everything is swapped around (RHD)

I still have the engine driven fan (far better cooling), tho not the factory one as hub was too deep, so one from a Rover V8 works a treat
